Ryan Murphy expressed that he would love to continue FX's horror anthology series, American Horror Story, well beyond season 10. The beloved FX series has remained a staple for viewers around the month of October, especially Halloween, with each new season dipping its toes into a variety of different scary and unsettling stories. Currently, the anthology series is in the midst of its ninth season titled American Horror Story: 1984. This season, in particular, has been an ode to '80s slasher films with plenty of familiar faces from past seasons returning to embody new and interesting characters.

It was announced last year that the series was renewed for a tenth, and supposedly final, season. Around that time, Murphy also inked a five-year deal with Netflix, which recently included the release of The Politician. But, Murphy promised that he remains committed to his FX slate as well, which also includes his Emmy-nominated series Pose. He clearly has a lot on his plate, but his love for American Horror Story still grows every day, and won't be dying out anytime soon. Not only has this new season of the series been met with praise from both critics and audiences, but this past Wednesday marked the show's 100th episode, which the cast and crew celebrated accordingly.

According to Variety, cast members new and old, along with the crew of American Horror Story, celebrated their 100th episode with a "lavish bash among the tombstones" at the Hollywood Forever Cemetary. While discussing his ideas for next season, Murphy exclaimed that even though the tenth season is the last one that's currently ordered, "this is something that is so beloved that maybe it could keep on going." He went on to explain that now, "in terms of worldwide…it’s one of the most popular shows in the world" adding in that he will "continue to have an appetite to do it." He exclaimed that he's been wondering, "should we end it? Or should we keep moving forward?" concluding that he hopes they "can move forward."

Considering how last season's Apocalypse connected its story back to season 1's Murder House, along with season 3's Coven, Murphy now has a world of opportunities at his fingertips when it comes to stories for the series. He created his own American Horror Story universe, which proved to be a hit with fans. Not only that, but the show's fan base is a dedicated one that welcomes each new season with open arms and is always ready to dig into his narratives for more connections to past seasons.

With this in mind, it wouldn't be surprising if American Horror Story continued beyond its 10th season. The fans continue to love what Murphy brings to the table, and it truly shows no sign of dying out anytime soon. Not to mention, Murphy's dedication and genuine love for the series is a sure sign that the show could have a thriving future if they wanted it to. But, as for right now, fans can enjoy the campy slasher-themed ninth season that's currently on FX. It's truly a perfect installment for this Halloween season.
