Ryan Gosling has revealed which MCU hero he would want to play and it's a fan favorite. Gosling is one of the most acclaimed and respected actors working today from a wide range of roles in films like The Notebook, Drive, and La La Land just to name a few. The actor is currently working on Barbie, in which he plays Ken, and is in the middle of promoting his newest film The Gray Man from Avengers: Endgame directing duo the Russo Brothers.

Gosling has been in demand for a number of high-profile projects, as he was considered for the role of the Lone Ranger, Joker in Suicide Squad, and even Doctor Strange in the MCU. Given Gosling's work with not only the Russo Brothers but also Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck on the 2006 film Half Nelson and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black on The Nice Guys, it makes a certain amount of sense that he would at some point consider joining the ever-popular franchise. With the recent additions of Charlize Theron as Clea and Harry Styles as Eros, Ryan Gosling appearing in an MCU after-credits scene as a new character does not seem out of the realm of possibility.

Josh Horowitz of MTV News spoke with Gosling and talked about the MCU. Gosling denied the popular rumors circulating online that he would be playing Nova in the planned film based on the character that was recently announced. However, Gosling did say there was one Marvel character he wants to play, which is the spirit of vengeance himself: Ghost Rider.

Created by Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, and Mike Ploog in Marvel Spotlight #5 in 1972, the original Ghost Rider was a stuntman named Johnny Blaze. This version of the character is the most well-known, previously appearing in two non-MCU Marvel films played by Nicolas Cage in 2007 and 2012. Other characters have also held the title of Ghost Rider, with two notable iterations being Danny Keitch and Robbie Reyes. Marvel Studios reportedly wanted to develop a Ghost Rider film back when they got the rights to the character but was stopped by Marvel Entertainment in order to develop the television side of the MCU.

Gosling playing Ghost Rider does not seem out of the realm of possibility. Marvel Studios is investing heavily in the supernatural side of the MCU with characters like Blade, Moon Knight, and Werewolf by Night. In 2021, Marvel Studios filed for a mysterious LLC for a streaming series referencing the Danny Keitch version of Ghost Rider, indicating the character is on Marvel's radar. Blade star Mahershala Ali contacted Marvel Studios about playing Blade shortly after his Academy Award win for Green Book, so Marvel Studios is likely listening for a big-name actor like Gosling wanting to join the MCU. Pairing one of the most respected actors in Hollywood with one of Marvel's most iconic characters who need an image reboot after two previous critically derided films seems like the perfect move.
