After they were separated in the aftermath of the Battle of Beacon RWBY volume 5 episode 6 finally saw three members of Team RWBY reunite. In the tumultuous world of Remnant in which RWBY is set, the one consistency throughout the anime series has been Team RWBY. Although it took the quartet of huntresses time to properly bond, Team RWBY gradually became a close-knit crew as they trained and battled together at the Beacon Academy to fight the nefarious forces that plague Remnant.
The Battle of Beacon in RWBY volume 3 changed the dynamic, however. Orchestrated by villain Salem, the battle was a devastating raid on the Beacon Academy that left it in ruins and resulted in the death of Team RWBY’s classmate Pyrrha, while Yang Xiao Long’s arm was severed by White Fang terrorist Adam Taurus. In the wake of the battle, Team RWBY split up with Ruby Rose taking Pyrrha’s place in her old team alongside Beacon Academy alumni Nora Valkyrie, Jaune Arc, and Lie Ren, while her half-sister Yang was training with their father Taiyang Xiao Long and adjusting to life with her prosthetic arm. Meanwhile, Weiss Schnee went back home to her family in Atlas and Blake Belladonna had returned to her homeland Menagerie with fellow Faunus Sun Wukong.
The team stayed on their separate paths throughout volume 4 but in volume 5 episode “Lighting The Fire,” Yang tracked down her mother Raven Branwen and reunited with Weiss when she discovered Raven had been holding her captive. With two members of the huntress crew back together, it was only a matter of time before a bigger Team RWBY reunion and that time came in RWBY volume 5 episode 6, “Known By Its Song”.
This episode of RWBY saw Yang convincing Raven to use her semblance to open up a portal that will take her to her sister Ruby. Before she helped her out, Raven tried to sway her daughter and Weiss with a few supposed truths about their former headmaster Professor Ozpin and Qrow Branwen – Raven’s estranged twin brother and Yang’s uncle. Raven gave Yang and Weiss a choice; stay with her and get all their questions answered or leave to join Ruby, Qrow, and Ozpin. Obviously, they chose the latter and had an emotional reunion with Ruby in Mistral.
Of course, one of the team was still worryingly absent from the reunion in RWBY volume 5 episode 6: Blake Belladonna. But as the next few episodes of RWBY proved, it wouldn’t be too long before Blake caught up with her fellow teammates and Team RWBY was fully reunited.
