Elevators are an aspect of the settlement building that was added last fall to Rust. However, due to its incredibly low spawn rate, at 2%, many players may only have recently seen them pop up. Or for players who will start playing on the consoles rather soon, this will be a whole new experience.

The hardest part of getting a hold of this infamously rare elevator box is that it's never guaranteed. Players are most likely to find the elevator box in a locked or special area. Most find it around the oil rig, but it can also be purchased from the vending machines at the Outpost from time to time. In particular, the one on the western side of the outpost is most likely where players can get it for 250 scraps.

What Players Need to Build their Own Elevators in Rust

Once players have purchased the elevator box, use another 125 scraps to research the elevator box at a level two or higher workbench and craft a blueprint. This will allow the player to recreate this, several times over. To craft an elevator box, players will need five high-quality metal pieces, three gears, and 300 metal fragments. Remember that an elevator box is only one level's worth of the elevator. Meaning that, to make a proper moving elevator they need to be stacked between two and six boxes high.

This will make the boxes turn into an elevator shaft and the elevator will likely sit inside the last crafted box. They can be stacked up to six levels high. Once the player has completed stacking them, there are a few things left for players to do. While not necessary for function, players can build walls and beams around the structure to make it more supported and protected inside. Then, players will need to power it up.

The elevator will require 10 power to actually run and go up and down inside of the shaft. However, for just the lights and appearance to sit idly, it only needs one power. Hooking up a power source at the very top usually works well, as the power hook-ups should be there. The power should hook into the right-hand side of the small generator. Then to use the elevator, simply step inside and look at the up or down arrow buttons inside. To go up or down just one floor, simply press the correlating button. To head down to the bottom or up to the very top, hold E while looking at the corresponding arrow and hit the bottom option.
