Anthony and Joe Russo are going to be working on a new original series for Amazon. This new show will follow up their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, the latter of which recently entered post-production.
The Russo-helmed Marvel movies have certainly been well-received by audiences, beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The success of their Captain America films earned them the chance to tackle Infinity War, the culmination film that has been teased since Thanos’ appearance at the end of the first Avengers movie. Since Infinity War is arguably one of the most ambitious films to date, and it has broken nearly every record a blockbuster can, it makes sense that Amazon would put faith in the Russo Brothers to spearhead a series.

According to EW, Anthony and Joe Russo new show has been confirmed, but details are still locked tight on its premise. A description from Amazon Studios reads:
"The origin mothership series will function as a fire-starter to ignite the creation of multiple original local language and local production series. All of the local series are meant to enhance the entire entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world."
Amazon did not reveal any concrete details on the settings or what kind of show it might be. In terms of genre, the Russo Brothers have directed a wide variety of things throughout their career, starting with TV shows like Community before joining the MCU, so anything is possible. Their resumes seem to have impressed Jennifer Salke, the Head of Amazon Studios, who had this to say about the new project:
"The Russo Brothers have impacted the pop culture barometer of creative excellence with their vision for both Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War. They brought a level of scale and execution to those films that has raised the bar for audiences everywhere and we can’t wait for them to do the same for us on this project for our Amazon Prime Customer. We are thrilled to be working with Joe and Anthony Russo and their AGBO Studios as they build this incredible, multifaceted, international franchise."
For those who may not familiar with it, AGBO is the Russos’ new studio that has various projects also in the pipeline. It appears that whatever the Russo Brothers will be working on for Amazon, it will be big in scope. While the Russo Brothers did not singlehandedly shape the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they were some of the primary architects of Phase 3, directing films that unified the MCU like never before. It's no surprise that their new Amazon show is also seemingly following a shared universe model.
What is most intriguing is the idea of a “local language” and “local production” series connecting creatively in the same world. How exactly separate stories with different languages will cohere to one continuity is ambitious for a streaming service like Amazon to try. Internationally produced shows have had mixed success over at Netflix, who canceled international shows like Marco Polo due to lukewarm ratings. Thankfully, the Russo Brothers are more than capable for this new challenge creatively, and have proven that they can sell a product.
