After 12 regular seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race and 4 seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars, we have ranked every Snatch Game from the series. Each season of Drag Race has included this iconic challenge except for the very first season of the regular program and All Stars season 1.
Snatch Game is the challenge that highlights the season's front-runners and gives the audience a clue to who will snatch the crown. In honor of the Snatch Game episode of seaon 12 airing tonight, April 3rd, we have ranked every episode from least successful to absolute slay. What makes an iconic snatch game?
A perfect mixture of a strong winner, solid character choices and number of jokes per minute. BenDeLaCreme's impression of Maggie Smith on season 6 is often thought of as the best performance of all time, but does that make season 6 Snatch Game the best episode? Scroll down, mama!
13. All Stars 3
This one was truly painful to revisit. Hopes were high for this talented cast, who followed the greatest season of the show's history: All Stars 2. BenDeLaCreme was able to really nail her character and Shangela got several great moments, but overall it was a swing and a miss. This was supposed to be the Drag Race redemption of comedic genius Trixie Mattel, but her impression of RuPaul was... a drag.
12. Season 11
This season's Snatch Game is almost last on this list because we expect more at this point! The dolls have watched more than 10 seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race. They should know to pick a character with three iconic lines and have them at the ready. Other than that just listen and play with Ru in a voice you have practiced. Yvie Oddly's Whoopi did not strike gold... berg. Our standards for a Celine Dion impression were not reached by Brooklyn Heights. It was a Brooklyn low. This episode did provide us with one of the best lip sync's of all time, but the Snatch Game itself was floundering at sea.
11. Season 2
The very first Snatch Game is only low on this list because it was still finding its footing. Tatiana absolutely killed as Britney Spears and rightfully won the challenge. Her responses were hysterical and very on-brand. The rest of the cast mostly played pop stars without much to offer comedically. Morgan McMichaels' Pink was more than two in the stink. Tyra Sanchez's Beyonce needed more formation.
10. Season 3
While we absolutely love this season and the wild cast of characters it introduced into the Drag Race world, this Snatch Game was truly unhinged. Stacy Layne Matthews was hysterical every step of the way, but almost everyone else was working very hard for very little payoff. Shangela was fine as Tina Turner and Raja had some fun moments as Tyra Banks, but it was mostly a bizarre and unfulfilling watch.
9. Season 4
Latrice Royale said it best, "The level of unprofessionalism... far too much." This Snatch Game was full of tomfoolery, shenanigans, and queens screaming in desperation. The relationship between Phi Phi O'Hara and her Lady Gaga was a bad romance. Poor Kenya Michaels turned Beyonce into a narcoleptic for some unknown reason. RuPaul was not crazy in love.
8. Season 9
This Snatch Game was as middle-of-the-road as this challenge can get. It had a nice showing from Shasha Velour as Marlene Dietrich, an expectedly strong performance from Shea Coulee as Naomi Campbell and a very good Liza Minelli from Alexis Michelle. Something about the first half of this season did not have all that (said in Liza's voice) jazz. This Snatch Game does not have the magic that the season 9 finale brought us. It needed more rose petal reveals.
7. All Stars 4
A fresh take on the form brought us The Snatch Game of Love. It was a fun injection into the game. Trinity the Tuck did an amazing Kaitlyn Jenner. It was a high level of difficulty and executing this impression without being problematic was impressive. Valentina, Gia Gunn, and Latrice Royale really faltered, but fun showings from Monique Heart and Naomi Smalls made this one of the good ones.
6. Season 10
This moment in season 10 was when audiences began to unanimously agree that this was a very strong season. Eureka O'Hara cracked the judges up as Honey Boo Boo. Monet X Change delivered a very funny Maya Angelou and Aquaria proved she was more than a look queen with her win as Melania Trump, "Any hole is a goal."
5. Season 5
Two words: Jinkx Monsoon. The underdog of season 5 decided to play a character most of the girls had never heard of and she absolutely crushed it. Her Little Edie turned the gardens from grey to technicolor. Jinkx paired with a fun Lady Bunny from Alaska and a solid Tamar Braxton from Roxxxy Andrews, made this Snatch Game one for the books.
4. Season 8
Bob the Drag Queen absolutely lapped the competition with her impressions of Uzo Aduba and Carol Channing. That is really saying something because this very competitive season also had hysterical impressions from Thorgy Thor as Michael Jackson and Kim Chi as Kimmy Jong-Un. This Snatch Game matched the season's overall performance. It was fantastic.
3. Season 7
Amid what is widely regarded as the worst season in Drag Race history was this truly wonderful bright spot. Ginger Minj was unbelievably funny as Adele and Kennedy Davenport was hysterical as Little Richard. Katya gave a strong performance and overall this Snatch Game had more laughs than almost any other season's Snatch Game. I know you don't believe us. We did not expect to put this season so high on the list either.
2. Season 6
When fans recount season 6 they think about Bianca Del Rio absolutely annihilating the competition, but a rewatch of this amazing Snatch Game will remind you what a phenomenal season this was. BenDeLaCeme as Maggie Smith was perfection. Adore Delano as Anna Nicole Smith was side-splittingly funny and the children have forgotten Josyln Fox.
1. All Stars 2
This number one ranking is going to be accompanied by a big old: DUH. The greatest season in Drag Race history was anchored by the greatest Snatch Game. Alaska was truly funnier here than most streaming stand-up comedy specials and Katya killed as Bjork. The clincher for this number one spot must be attributed to a wild and amazing performance by Alyssa Edwards. The dancing queen played Joan Crawford and it was as crazy as any fan could hope it would be.
Although the RuPaul's Drag Race UK Snatch Game was amazing we decided to stick to the American versions for this list. The Season 12 episode of Snatch Game on RuPaul's Drag Race airs on April 3, 2020 on Vh1. Fans are hoping it will fit nicely at the top of this list.
