With some runways from season 15 of RuPaul's Drag Race including "beautiful nightmare" and metallic looks, it is shown how different personalities interpret the runway categories so creatively. While some runways have been underwhelming, others have been absolutely show-stopping, showing the importance of a good runway category.

Reddit users have some strong opinions about the runway, showing their passion for the show. These Reddit users take it one step further by suggesting some categories that they would love to see on the show. Some would like to see characters from movies and tv reflected on the runway while others would enjoy seeing historical decades represented. Whatever the case, the looks for the categories would surely be intriguing,

RuPaul's School For Girls Runway

Boarding School Fashion

"RuPaul’s School for Girls. Dress up in your best boarding school looks, be it the staff or the students" suggested Redditor dsarma for a new runway category. Given that so many queens in the past have modeled some boarding school or school uniform ensemble, this runway category would not be that far-fetched. It would be interesting to see the different iterations that the queens could make of this category. It could range from looks that resemble a buttoned-up, goodie two-shoes student to a kooky art teacher at a stuffy boarding school. Also, famous movies and tv looks that use school uniform outfits like the quotable Clueless or Gossip Girl could inspire some sensational looks.

First Time In Drag Runway

Willam's first time in drag in 2003 and their drag in 2018.

"First time in drag should be a recurring category IMO" said Reddit user by wakuani. This category would show how much each queen has evolved and grown since their first time in drag, heightening the difference between their novice drag and their more advanced drag today.

The time and energy that has gone into honing their craft would be on full display for a First Time in Drag runway, allowing viewers to see the beginnings of their drag journey. Many queens show pictures of their first time in drag online but a runway where the queens would have to recreate their first time would be very exciting.

Horror Movie Icons Runway

The mummy, creature from the black Lagoon, and Bride of Frankenstein

Redditor One_Resolve_7547 suggested "horror movie icons & add maybe a separate tim burton one? I think that could be really cool to see (Emily from Corpse bride, sally from NBC, etc)." A drag version of the renowned Universal Classic Monsters characters that includes Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Mummy among others could be really impressive and fashionable if done right. The category would also allow for campy looks or high fashion looks that would depend on the particular queen's personal style. A Tim Burton subcategory or different category down the line would also be noteworthy and give queens a lot of choices to pick from.

Night Of 1,000 Divines Runway

Divine points a gun in Pink Flamingos

OldSpecific9769 replied to the original post, "Night of 1000 divines (think it’d be interesting to see where the queens take it)". Divine was an icon of the LGBTQ+ and drag scene that appeared in many of John Waters's films. One of the most well-known appearances from Divine was their part in the 1972 film, Pink Flamingoes which has inspired looks on the show before like Eureka's Snatch Game of Love look. Queens could choose from the many interesting and unique looks Divine delivered over the years in music videos, performances, and movies, and make the chosen look fit their aesthetic or show a look as identical as possible to the original.

Past Drag Race Queens Runway

"It would be great to have a category of previous [Drag Race] queens that inspired their own looks." was suggested by GoodNeighbourNow. Since there have been so many drop dead gorgeous outfits on the show as well as some show-stopping fashion queens on Drag Race, there really would be no shortage of looks to choose from to be inspired by. This category would be similar to the design challenge of season 11 called "Whatcha Unpackin" where contestants needed to use materials inspired by previous queens to craft a look. However, the runway category suggested by the Reddit user takes it up a notch by having the queens design regalia that is directly inspired by the previous queens themselves, not just materials associated with the past queens.

Same Material Runway

The Same Material runway for RPDR Canada.

" I enjoyed CAN3 design challenge where everyone was given the exact same material; really a test of design and crafting as material wise, everyone is on the same playing field." said IglooArizona. As the Reddit user noted, this would not be the first time the challenge has been applied to the franchise, but it would be the first time stateside.

The commenter makes very good points for a same fabric challenge, showing that if everyone is given the same material, it puts all the contestants on an equal footing regardless of budget or access to designers. The interpretation of the fabric would be completely up to the queen, allowing their personalities to shine through.

Hippie Runway

Hippie Fashion

"I would love to see a Summer of Love hippie runway, with Grace Slick guest judging and a White Rabbit LSFYL" was proposed by user bcj3. It's crazy that a '60s Hippie runway has not been done yet from the 15 seasons of the show and seven seasons of All Stars.

It would be fascinating to see how the contestants would interpret Hippie looks and see which queens glam the looks up or go for an appearance as real and authentic as possible. There could be some captivating body paint going on, which was common in the Hippie era. There could also be a lot of beautiful suede attire on the runway that would channel the fashions of the Summer of Love period.

Disney Runway

Sugar and Spice drag-race

"Sugar and spice got me thinking has there ever been a Disney princesses/characters category? That could be fun." positioned user Wild_Manufacturer918. Disney characters have inspired looks on the runway before, like what the Redditor user brought up about Sugar and Spice, and they are consistently a highlight of the runway. Contestants can go as glam as they want with their Disney princess/character looks or modernize the looks as much as possible, enabling the garb to be varied and diverse even if contestants were to choose the same character. Any contestant would have no difficulty in choosing a character from Disney's 100-year history, making it an easy runway as well as a snazzy one.

Greek Mythology Runway

Venus painting

"Greek goddesses /Greek mythology in general would be so cool" said moneyquest. Greek mythology is filled with a spellbinding lot of characters that range from the pure of heart to the downright evil. Due to the vast number of characters, some well known, some not, the runway could be hugely varied. Also, since Greek mythology has been presented in pieces of popular culture like the Birth of Venus (Aphrodite to Greek myth) painting by Botticelli to the Disney version of the Greek tale Hercules, the looks could model the pop culture versions of Greek mythology. They could also attempt to resemble the type of looks captured in ancient Greek pottery, or even make a look inspired by Greek pottery itself.

Spy Runway

Bond girls and Diana Rigg

"Bond/spy ladies" was noted by the Reddit thread OP reinhartswift, who gave a number of other suggestions like a past-winners-inspired runway and a Transformers runway. The contestants could choose from iconic Bond looks like Ursula Andress' and Halle Berry's bikini looks or take inspiration from spies in other media like Diana Riggs's character in the '60s TV series The Avengers (as opposed to Marvel's Avengers). Queens could even do their own spin on the spy category, coming up with their own spy character that aligns with their drag persona.
