Perhaps the best mini-challenge in RuPaul's Drag Race and Drag Race All Stars is "Reading is Fundamental," also known as the "Reading Challenge." First introduced in season 2, the queens are tasked to take turns putting on a pair of novelty glasses and "read" their fellow contestants by throwing shade and insults at them.

Some of the shadiest lines from the challenge's winners have made viewers, contestants, and Ru all gag, laugh, and have their jaws dropping on the floor. Whether it was an insult to the queen's drag or a dig at their personal rivalries with other contestants, these top insults still leave fans entertained to this day.

Jujubee: "Miss Tatiana... You Think You're So Soft? Not By The Hairs Of Your Chinny-Chin-Chin."

Jujubee from RuPaul's Drag Race

Fan-favorite Jujubee was the first-ever winner of the Reading Challenge on Drag Race. She had some excellent shade for her fellow queens, which left them and RuPaul agog.

Perhaps her shadiest reading was directed at Tatiana, whose "soft" pretty features were often overshadowed by the queen's incessant facial hair. Not only was Juju's insult a reference to her stubble but it also referenced the classic children's fable "The Three Little Pigs," comparing the beautiful Tatiana to the hairy Big Bad Wolf. The dig landed even more considering Tatiana, who had her turn before Jujubee, struggled during her turn and admitted to not being able to come up with anything funny to say to the other queens.

Jujubee: "Mayhem Filler... Sorry, I Meant Meh-hem Miller."

Jujubee opens her mouth in surprise on the runway in RuPaul's Drag Race.

Jujubee is one of three queens who won the Reading Challenge both in their season and in All Stars. With guest judge Ricky Martin present, Jujubee really amped it up for season5 of  All Stars during the Reading Challenge and easily secured her second win of the beloved mini-challenge.

All of her insults landed with laughs but her reading of Mayhem Miller was perhaps her shadiest. Not only was it two insults with so few words but it was also using a reference to a famous Nina West moment. "Meh" is still a memorable quote for many Drag Race fans so the insult was especially impactful for loyal viewers of the show.

Shangela: "Mimi Imfurst."

Underdog Shangela took the Reading Challenge crown in season 3. Having frequently been undermined by some of her fellow queens throughout the season, she was quick and ready to deliver shade where she could, and each reading landed well.

Before Shangela's turn, Delta Work mentioned in the confessional how she was getting bored of the repeated fat jokes that the queens threw at her when she was being read. Shangela shook things up by simply calling Delta perhaps one of the least successful Drag Race contestants in season 3, if not the show as a whole: Mimi Imfurst. No elaboration was necessary as all the queens knew Mimi Imfurst was shorthand for "failure" on the series.

BenDeLaCreme: "Shangela... Look At How Far You've Come Now. You Are Much Older."

Ben de la Creme poses with a parrot on her hand from RuPaul's Drag Race.

Whether it was her Snatch-Game-winning performance as Dame Maggie Smith or her shocking self-elimination from season 3 of All Stars, BenDeLaCreme has certainly proven herself to be a strong and memorable queen.

Ben won five maxi challenges in All Stars 3, and she started strong by winning the first mini challenge of the season, which was the Reading Challenge. When addressing Shangela, Ben commented on how far she had come: "Initially, your makeup was kind of busted, your outfits were a mess and your personality was super grating." It was when she got to her closing statement of the insult that the shade was a real hit and made everyone in the workroom gasp.

Gottmik: "Kandy Muse. It Is So Amazing How We Represent Such Different Communities Here. Gay. Trans. Pug."

Season 13 finalist Gottmik is one of Drag Race's most recent iconic and popular queens. Along with her signature black and white make-up, Gottmik delivered some flawless, edgy, and unique looks that smashed on the runway.

As well as her looks, Gottmik was also a very funny queen and had a natural knack for comedy, as demonstrated by her winning impersonation of Paris Hilton in the Snatch Game. During the Reading Challenge, Gottmik delivered some shady insults but it was her reading of Kandy Muse that had Ru and the other queens laughing the loudest. With her unique aesthetic and sharp comedic talents, it's no wonder fans want to see Gottmik return in All Stars.

Latrice Royale: "Jiggly Caliente. BMW... Body Made Wrong."

Season 4's Miss Congeniality Latrice Royale is a solid fan favorite in the Drag Race fandom. From "The shade of it all" to "Get those nuts away from my face!," Latrice has delivered many memorable quotes to Drag Race thanks to the way she so hilariously delivers them, and the Reading Challenge was no exception.

Like Jujubee, Latrice won the Reading Challenge in both of the fourth seasons of Drag Race and All Stars. She delivered some serious shade but perhaps the best was her reading of Jiggly Caliente in season 4. The insult was simple but effective and was delivered with the pure sassy essence of Latrice Royale.

Ginger Minj: "Look At This Cast, Ru. God, My Cholesterol Is Higher Than Your Standards These Days."

Ginger Minj portrays singer Adele in Snatch Game in season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Appearing in two seasons of All Stars as well as a finalist in season 7, Ginger Minj is one of the most iconic queens from the Southern states. She has always done well in the comedy challenges by becoming only the second queen (after Kennedy Davenport) to win two Snatch Games during her time in Drag Race.

In the current season of All Stars, Ginger started her reading very strongly by only not insulting all of her queens in one line but RuPaul as well, entertaining everyone there including special guest Miss Piggy from The Muppets. From there, Ginger's shade remained strong and hilarious, leading to a well-deserved mini challenge win.

Darienne Lake: "BenDeLaCreme. You Remind Me Of A Russian Doll - Full Of Yourself."

Darienne Lake was a semi-finalist of season 6 and despite being in the bottom three times, she proved herself to be a worthy competitor. One such example was winning the Reading Challenge against the queen of comedy and insults, Bianca Del Rio.

While Bianca naturally had some excellent shade for her fellow queens, Darienne delivered her insults with a bit of a dramatic flair that is hard not to enjoy. Her reading of BenDeLaCreme was most certainly her shadiest, which was further emphasized by miming opening up a Russian doll. Ben's stony face after she completed the insult spoke volumes.

Alaska: "Alyssa Edwards. Miss US - Oh, Wait."

Drag queen Alaska portrays Mae West during the Snatch Game on RuPaul's Drag Race.

One of the most notable beefs in Drag Race began before the season they appeared on had even begun filming. Before she appeared on season 5, Drag Race legend Alyssa Edwards was stripped over her pageantry crown of Miss Gay America, and the title went to runner-up Coco Montrese. The rivalry between the two provided a lot of drama and entertainment for the season.

When it came to Alaska's turn to read her fellow queens, it is little wonder that her brief yet brutal reading of Alyssa Edwards was her shadiest insult. Not only was it rubbing salt in the wound but it was giving something for rival Coco to enjoy during her short time on the show.

Alaska: "If Drag Doesn't Work Out, You Will Always Have Something To Fall Back On... Your Back Rolls."

Alaska poses with her hand on her hip in RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season 2.

Alaska is the third queen to have won two Reading Challenges. She once again threw shade at Alyssa Edwards in All-Stars 2's Reading Challenge, only this time referencing one of the most memorable arguments in Untucked to date.

During season 5, Alyssa had criticized younger queen Jade Jolie for her makeup and lack of talent, in which Jade retorted with how Alyssa had rolls of extra weight all over her body and back. Alyssa then responded with the memorable "...Back rolls?" Alaska's insults are always hilarious but to be able to throw serious shade at the same queen twice is a remarkable feat in Drag Race.
