Star of RuPaul’s Drag Race Kandy Muse received hate from fans and the negativity has spread to her mother. Muse argued with costar Tamisha Iman during Untucked, the Drag Race "sister series" capturing what happens while the queens "untuck" during the judges’ deliberations. Iman called Muse arrogant, which made the Dominican doll pop off. The queens participated in a tense argument until Muse finally took herself out of the situation.
The talented drag queens are currently competing on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13. The fifth episode showed Muse boasting about how costar Symone was her biggest competition, but Iman disagreed. Iman claimed Muse was underestimating her fellow contestants, and a brief argument followed. The tension between the queens was thick, and when the ball challenge concluded, they were at odds yet again. Muse has since been subjected to a flurry of attacks from fans on social media.
“My mother seriously just called me to tell me fans have found her on Instagram and are messaging her nasty sh*t,” tweeted the self-proclaimed "honorary producer." The tweet continued, “Y’all are f***ing disgusting. Goodbye.” Online trolls are a downside of reality television but generally part of the deal. However, uninvolved family members are usually not attacked. Drag queens and normal fans agreed with the New York-based performer and came to her aid on social media.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK stars Divina De Campo and A’whora tweeted statements of affirmation. De Campo called harassing people’s families “not cute,” while A’whora urged fans to show love to the eliminated queen, rather than hating those who are still in the competition. Muse’s season thirteen sister Olivia Lux responded to a different attack on Muse, tweeting, “This is so mean and not right y’all!! Please be nice.” Iman has not issued any statement regarding the online hate on any of her social media accounts.
The hate seems out of place, as the feud led to the most exciting episode of Untucked in recent memory. Fans plead with the queens to bring drama but then express disdain for the queens that heed their call. It takes two to tango, so if a fight is a goal, both queens should be praised. Both queens contributed iconic moments throughout the show for fans to talk about. Muse has been a polarizing character on RuPaul’s Drag Race, due to her bold opinions and penchant for speaking her mind. The performer may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the beauty of the show is that a hater has plenty of other queens to root for. Spreading hate to any of the queens is wrong and attacking their family members is just beyond. Hopefully, this incident will be the only display of such hatred from the fanbase this season.
