Warning! SPOILERS for Canada's Drag Race season 2 episode 3 below!
The queens faced an acting challenge on Canada's Drag Race season 2 episode 3, and there were clear standouts and failures when it came to their performances in the challenge and on the runway. Last week, Océane Aqua-Black was eliminated from Canada's Drag Race after not delivering a good performance in the "Under The Big Top" Rusical. Icesis Couture went from winning the first maxi challenge of the season to lip syncing for her life, so the Canadian edition is once again keeping viewers on their toes.
Amanda Brugel and Fefe Dobson came into the werkroom this week to introduce the "Screech" horror movie acting challenge to the queens. Amanda and Fefe also directed the challenge and gave pretty solid advice to the queens. It was clear that Stephanie Prince and Synthia Kiss were struggling from the start. While it is a good idea to over-act on Drag Race, let's just say that Stephanie was over-over-over-acting, and it didn't work. Meanwhile, it really hurt Synthia not to know how to portray a Martha, who is a very specific character from The Handmaid's Tale.
On the other hand, certain "Screech" characters just came naturally to queens like Adriana, Eve 6000, Kimora Amour, Pythia, and Gia Metric. Eve 6000 hit the perfect note for the role of narrator, and Gia Metric delivered a funny ditzy girl that is so typical of a horror movie. Kimora Amour has yet to fail us this season, and her nerdy character was yet another display of this queen's talents. Pythia didn't pop in the final edit, but her performance was nothing but solid this week once again. With all that said, Adriana was the clear winner of the maxi challenge this week. Adriana delivered a dragged-up Brad Goreski that also infused a pinch of Caesar Flickerman (the television host character in The Hunger Games), and the result was simply glorious, camp, and hilarious.
The runway category was "Good Girl Gone Bad", and Adriana once again took this one home. Her Marie Antoinette sweet platter look was miles ahead of anything else that walked the runway this week, so this was certainly Adriana's week to win a challenge. As far as the other queens go, the looks were all pretty evened out, so they really had to be judged by their acting performances. Stephanie Prince wasn't able to "tone it down," which had been Amanda's note for her while directing the scene. Kendall Gender went a little bit off-script, and even though it wasn't that big of a deal for anyone to hit these lines perfectly, she still got called out for it in the critiques. Synthia Kiss knew that her Martha didn't reference the actual character, so she had already braced herself to hear the negative critiques.
In the end, Stephanie and Synthia lip synced to "Ghost" by Fefe Dobson. To be fair, this wasn't a super clear win for either of them, but Synthia did outperform Stephanie as a whole. After their lip sync performance, a teary-eyed Fefe congratulated the queens for being so talented and fierce, and that was a really sweet moment. Alas, one queen still had to be eliminated. Synthia was chosen to stay, and Stephanie was told to sashay away.
