Marvel's Runaways season 3 now has its villain, as Elizabeth Hurley will play sorceress Morgan le Fay. After seeing ABC and Netflix have varying degrees of success with live-action Marvel TV shows, Hulu began working with Marvel to bring the Runaways to the small screen. Once envisioned as a movie as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Runaways has since proven to be a quality piece of superhero television for Hulu. The first season launched in late 2017, and the second season debuted fully in December of 2018.

After the launch and season 2 finale cliffhanger, Hulu and Marvel were surprisingly quiet on whether or not a third season was coming. A renewal was reportedly likely, but it was only after a cast member let the news slip at a convention that they officially announced more episodes of Runaways were coming. The third season is currently filming, and even though the Gibborim aliens appeared to be set up as the main antagonists, a major new foe has now joined the series.

Marvel and Hulu officially announced today that Elizabeth Hurley has joined Runaways as Morgan le Fay. Hurley's past credits include Gossip Girl, The Royals, and Austin Powers and she will now play the main villain of the third season. Executive Producer Jeph Loeb shared his excitement for the addition of Hurley as le Fay saying:

Elizabeth Hurley is joining the Marvel Universe and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her portraying one of the most enchanting Marvel characters.

Morgan le Fay was first introduced in Marvel comics in 1955, but her origins go back to Arthurian legends. In either instance, le Fay is a student of the ancient wizard Merlin, and trains with him to become one of the most powerful sorcerers of all time. Her powers are vast, with the ability to transform into a black crow, enchant objects, manipulate mystic energy, and astral project. The press release for the addition of le Fay teases her as "powerful and intelligent with a cut-throat wit," which could be right up Hurley's ally.

Now that it's known Runaways season 3 will feature Morgan le Fay, fans of her comic counterpart will undoubtedly hope to see Hurley in costume shortly. While we wait for that, her introduction in the storyline should be an exciting new wrinkle. Her sorceress ways could be used to help Nico Minoru (Lyrica Okano) after being affected by the Staff of One, the Dark Dimension, and maybe even Dormammu in season 2. But, if she's the main villain of the new season, then magic could become a larger focus in season 3 of Runaways.
