The O.C. and Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will give the characters of Marvel's Runaways plenty of "love" to be shared, according to one of the series' young stars. Rhenzy Feliz plays Alex Wilder on the new Hulu series, and he knows a thing or two about budding romance among the would-be superheroes, as his character has been getting closer to the current bearer of the Staff of One, Nico Minoru (Lyrica Okano).

So far, the kids of Marvel's Runaways have paired off in interesting ways. First, there was Alex and Nico, who discovered their true feelings for one another in the midst of what amounts to a very stressful situation (discovering your parents are supervillains is certainly up there when it comes to stressors). Meanwhile, Chase has had some terrific interactions with both Gert and Karolina, creating the potential for a love triangle, which could complicate things considerably, just as the formerly estranged friends have begun to rekindle their broken bonds.

But what is it that really brought Alex and Nico together? Is the romantic side of their relationship the result of their unusual circumstances, or have the two always had feelings for one another? According to Feliz, it's mostly the latter, as the actor explained to Screen Rant in a recent interview. Feliz feels that the two have long felt something toward the other, and now just became the right time to express those feelings. Feliz said:

Rhenzy Feliz and Virginia Gardner in Marvel's Runaways

"I think they're two of only six people in the world going through that situation at the time, where they're very confused about who their parents are, and they're very scared of what they might find out. So the fact that they're in it together automatically makes them closer. But I think that even beforehand they had a connection. Before everything happened I think they always sort of liked each other and I think Alex does go out of his way to try and make her feel comfortable again. He sees that she's hurting and I think that he tries to mend that. But at the same time I think that Nico starts to feel for Alex, too. You see how much she fights to get him back… I think that's because she cares about him as well."

But what about other potential pairings the show may have in the works? Well, Feliz was quick to respond with yet another example of Marvel's extreme secrecy concerning plot details of the upcoming and in-progress films and TV shows.

"If I say, then I'll get shot by Marvel. There're definitely more pairings coming up. There's something that maybe some comic book people will expect. But there's more to come, definitely. It's Josh and Steph -- these guys made The O.C., they made Gossip Girl, there's going to be a lot of love being shared around."

So far, Runaways has made good use of its cast – both in smaller pairings and by getting everyone together, like it did in episode 5 – but with several episodes yet to go, it seems as though Hulu's Marvel series may have a few surprise match-ups still in store.
