According to Deadline, there's a possibility that Netflix will drop the previously titled God Particle trailer during the Super Bowl. This would also confirm that Netflix has actually bought streaming rights to the film, another rumor that's been floating around recently.
The Super Bowl has become prime marketing ground for movie trailers in the past few years, and there are several rumored trailers coming on February 4th. The Cloverfield sequel is a very particular case, as the recent reports point to Netflix picking up the film instead of a theatrical release. The film was originally slated for release by Paramount Pictures on February 24, until it was pushed back to an October release. After getting moved again, it finally landed on April 20. But now that Netflix may have the rights to the film, they may release the film even earlier than April. If there is a trailer released during the Super Bowl, it should clear up all the recent confusion over the release date.
God Particle, which may be retitled to Cloverfield Station is the third in the loose Cloverfield series, following 10 Cloverfield Lane. Directed by newcomer Julius Onah, the film is set aboard a space station, where the crew is conducting science experiments with a particle accelerator. Something obviously goes horrifically wrong, and the space station and everyone on it is in great danger. While it may sound like a generic space-crew-in-danger plot, the cast likely points to a much greater concept here. God Particle has a great cast consisting of Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Bruuhl, Gugu Mabatha-Raw, David Oleyowo, Aksel Hennie and Chris O'Dowd. 10 Cloverfield Lane was one of the greater cinematic surprises in recent years, taking the Manhattan destroying elements of the first film and compressing them into three characters in a bunker with a lot of questions. J.J. Abrams pulled off an impressive feat with that one, so needless to say that there's a lot to be excited about this time around.
God Particle isn't the only trailer to be excited for during the Super Bowl. Disney has several high-profile films coming out this year, so we will likely see something for Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and possibly even the first promotions for Ant-Man and the Wasp. Speaking of films that haven't been promoted yet, Solo: A Star Wars Story is in a similar boat as God Particle, with an imminent release in May with no trailer whatsoever. The confirmed trailers that we will definitely see are Mission: Impossible - Fallout, John Krasinski's horror film A Quiet Place and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. On top of that, we'll likely see something from A Wrinkle in Time and The Incredibles 2, as they are two of the higher-profile family releases this year.
