Netflix’s newest rom-com The Royal Treatment boasts a talented cast of stars and lesser-known actors who blended seamlessly and worked well together. The Royal Treatment was released on Netflix on January 20, adding to the long list of easy-watching romantic comedies available on the streaming platform. The movie takes place in New York and the fictional country of Lavania (which, according to a line from the movie, may or may not belong to the same universe as Genovia, where The Princess Diaries is set).

The Royal Treatment follows hairdresser and salon owner Isabella as she unexpectedly receives a call from Martin, assistant and butler to Prince Thomas of Lavania, asking for a haircut for the prince. Izzy, whose hair salon is financially struggling, jumps at the chance and accepts the job. When things go awry and she misses their appointment, Prince Thomas goes to her salon instead. Their budding friendship leads Izzy and her coworker friends Destiny and Lola to be responsible for hair and make-up at the prince’s wedding to Lauren, happening in his native country of Lavania. However, their stay there leads to something more than a friendship between Izzy and Thomas, which complicates things for all.

The Royal Treatment is directed by Spartacus alum Rick Jacobson and written by Sabrina, The Teenage Witch writer and producer Holly Hester. It's not the most innovating rom-com, following Netflix's tried-and-true formula of "regular girl meets a prince and falls in love," but it's helped along by the charm of its actors. Here’s the cast of The Royal Treatment, what characters they play, and where they’ve appeared before.

Laura Marano As Isabella/Izzy

Laura Marano plays protagonist salon owner Isabella, who’s kind and hard-working but will put her foot down and refuse a potential much-needed job if those offering mistreat her staff. Marano has appeared in a number of films including Lady Bird, Superbad, and The War With Grandpa. Her best-known TV work includes Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally, where she played the lead role Ally. She's also a singer, and sang two of the songs on the movie's soundtrack.

Mena Massoud As Prince Thomas

Mena Massoud stars as Prince Thomas of Lavania, whose parents only want him married off to serve the family’s purposes rather than listening to his proposals about how to manage their kingdom. Massoud got his start appearing in TV shows like Amazon’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and The CW’s Nikita, among others. Nevertheless, Massoud is best known for portraying the titular character in Aladdin, the 2019 Disney live-action remake of the 1991 classic. He'll return for the sequel, which is currently in development.

Cameron Rhodes As Walter
