One of the main characters on Gilmore Girls is Rory Gilmore. She is a daughter who is best friends with her mom and who is from the quaint community of Stars Hollow. She is smart and studious, with a love of writing and reading. She is a genuinely sweet person, with a friendly and introverted vibe. And like everyone else, she has flaws and traits that help make her who she is.

Over the years and even a few years ago in the revival series on Netflix, Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life, fans have seen the ups and downs of Rory’s life. And here and now, everyone can revisit and learn about her five best and her five worst traits.

Best: She Is Smart

Obviously, Rory is smart, as she worked hard in school, received good grades, and went on to get an Ivy League education. She is often seen writing and reading, but her knowledge goes beyond book smarts.

She is levelheaded and mature, making (mostly) sound decisions. She is cultured and can share information on everything from other countries to which celebrities are dating. And she is a talented journalist (which will be discussed down below).

Worst: She Can Be Too Shy

Most people are either introverts or extroverts, and Rory can certainly be shy and quiet. While that, on its own, is not a flaw, it has been known to hold her back at times.

When she started Chilton and Yale, in particular, it was pointed out that she kept to herself, that she maybe didn’t know how to socialize and that she could have been snobby. The truth is that she just likes being alone with her music and books!

Best: She Has A Good Heart

Rory is also a really good person with a true and loving heart and soul. How she was raised, growing up in Stars Hollow, being taught morals…

All of this went into developing a friendly and giving person who has been compared to an angel and a Disney princess.

Worst: She Was The Other Woman

Of course, she is only human, so mistakes have been made. One of the biggest and actually one of the first times she was ever seen really slipping up was when she became the other woman.

Dean was her first boyfriend/love, but they broke up, he moved on, and he married someone else. The marriage was apparently going through a rough patch, and during this time, Rory and Dean reconnected and hooked up.

Best: She Is A Talented Writer

On a lighter and more positive note, Rory is a writer. This is an area in which she has always been gifted and something she has always enjoyed.

Therefore, she wrote for her school papers, and after graduating from college, she has pursued different journalist endeavors, as well.

Worst: She Can’t Handle Criticism

There have been a few moments in life that make it seem like Rory can’t handle criticism. A major example was when Mitchum told her she doesn’t have what it takes to be a journalist, which caused her to steal a boat, get arrested, and drop out of college.

Any time Lorelai and Rory butt heads, Rory gets defensive, too. And while the job interview that is pictured above (from A Year In The Life) was not a great one, it was another time when Rory had sort of an outburst after things didn’t go her way.

Best: She Is Friendly

As mentioned, Rory is also nice and friendly, even as an extrovert. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, she is the princess of her quaint hometown, and she hates upsetting anyone.

Though shy, she greets everyone with warmth and a smile, and once she gets to know someone, she is a great friend and a lovely human being in general!

Worst: She Doesn’t Always Make Time For Her Friends

However, there have been bumps in the road when it comes to Rory’s friendships, and in particular, she has not always made time for Lane. They have been best friends for years, but then Rory transferred schools and moved away to start college. Meanwhile, during that time, Lane was busy with a rock band and being pregnant with twins.

Their lives and social schedules have not always lined up, but still… Rory should always make time for her BFF, listen to her, check in on her, and know that her ups and downs are still important.

Best: She Is Mature

As mentioned, Rory is mature, another positive quality. In high school, this helped her stay above the drama and out of trouble.

In the real world, this has helped her find success. She is bright, inside and out, and she can carry on a conversation with anyone about anything. Personally and professionally, these traits are wonderful ones to have.

Worst: She Sometimes Runs Away From Her Problems

A final negative trait is that Rory has been known to run away from her problems. The example with Mitchum is, once again, a great one; she became a different person, focusing on the DAR and living with her grandparents.

Fights with Lorelai have always resulted in her clamming up or literally running away, as, after sleeping with Dean, she went off to Europe with her grandmother. This may be a common way for people to deal with issues, but it is not exactly a healthy one.
