Sorvino now shares an update on a potential Romy & Michele sequel on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna. When asked about the film, Sorvino immediately perks up and shares her excitement for the future. Check out what she has to say below:
"So there's nothing official to report, but I can unofficially hint that we are closer than we've ever been to getting something to happen... Every other time I've appeared I would be like, 'Come on, please let's do something,' and now I'm like, 'Okay okay we're getting closer!' So, very excited, I can't say anything yet, but something might be in the works."
Although nothing official can be confirmed, Sorvino seems optimistic about Romy & Michele's future. Considering fans crave more content almost 30 years later, and both stars are on board, it's hard to imagine the sequel not happening at this point. If they still own the rights, Disney could add the potential project to the already notable collection of prequels, sequels, and reboots of iconic movies featured on their streaming platform. A theatrical release is less likely considering the tough competition at the box office, but with Disney+ climbing in the ranks of the streaming wars, they'd most likely prefer this on that platform. With all signs pointing to a Romy & Michele's High School Reunion sequel, official confirmation is hopefully on its way.
