While not entirely necessary, players may want to play as a wizard or class that has a lot of knowledge about magic as most of his conversations deal with magic. The study and energy of magic is incredibly important to him, so take this into account when making decisions for the group. Players should also remember that Gale is a awful to neutral good character, meaning he cares about decisions that are the best for everyone and help others.

How to Trigger Gale's Romance Cutscene in Baldur's Gate III

As with any of the characters a player might romance, speaking with Gale is a good way to gain his approval and interest in the player. In particular, players will learn about his love for the goddess Mystra and his proclivity for magical artifacts. One of the easier ways to gain approval from him is to gift him these magical artifacts like the book of The Necromancy of Thay from Ilyn Toth's lair in the Blighted Village.

The Weave scene is the first real cutscene where the player can flirt with Gale. Successfully move the weave with him and get woven into it and the player will find that whatever they think about, Gale will know. The player can subtly, or not so subtly, let him know they are interested in him here. He is a sympathetic and romantic character, so choosing the cheesier options tends to work well with him.

As with every romance, the main cutscene happens after the celebration for bringing Druid Halsin back home and destroying the Goblin Camp. Speak with Gale at the party. He'll start the conversation out by thanking the player. The player should respond with, "I'm sure you're welcome." Gale will comment on enjoying the player's confidence and thank them for seeking him out. He'll talk about making merry, and both options one and two will cause him to react positively. After confirming that they want to make merry, the player can head to their bedroll and select to spend the night with Gale.

This romance cutscene shows a lot more about who Gale is than some of the other character options. Players learn about his past romance with Mystra and how his mistakes in wishing to please her have made him a broken person who constantly needs to feed magical items into the hole in his chest. Otherwise, he may become a walking bomb. Playing a more passive, but intellectual and curious character will help the player gain a positive reputation with him.
