While the plot of a rom-com movie focuses on a loving couple and the ups and/or downs of the relationship, none of it would be complete without (hopefully) supportive family members, pals who are cheering it all on, and, of course, villains. After all, conflict is part of what makes a story so intriguing and entertaining!

That being said, let’s think back on some of the most memorable bad guys and gals from romantic comedies. Let’s list them all out, from bad to worse and down to the worst. And let’s see this ranking of these villains down below…

Olivia Lerner & Emma Allan

bride wars

Bride Wars came out in 2009, and it starred Kate Hudson as Olivia "Liv" Lerner and Anne Hathaway as Emma Allan. Liv was an attorney who liked for everything to go her way, while Emma was more of a pushover and people-pleaser.

So when they both started planning their wedding days together, they started butting heads and running into problems, such as wanting the same venue on the same day. They both made mistakes, they got distracted and caught up in nonsense, and they really became their own worst enemies.

Tess Nichols

27 dresses

Tess Nichols was Malin Åkerman’s character in 27 Dresses, and she was the main character’s (Jane Nichols, played by Katherine Heigl) little sister. There is girl code, and there is a sisterly code, as well, meaning Tess should have known what Jane wanted. Instead, she came in, pretended to be someone she wasn’t, fell for Jane’s crush, and stole the show.

Sure, things worked out even better for Jane in the end, and Jane did some not-so-nice things in retaliation. Still, Tess should have not been so selfish and blinded… then she could have avoided ending up on this list!

Aldous Snow

Kristen Bell and Russell Brand in a hotel lobby in Forgetting Sarah Marshall

There was another villain from 2008, one who was just going about his business yet who was sort of the antagonist of the story: Aldous Snow.

In Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) and Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) were dating, but Sarah left Peter for Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). As Peter tried to get over the breakup, he kept seeing the love of his life with this famous and popular rock star who was really, really, really into himself.

Darcy

Something Borrowed

Kate Hudson is almost too good at playing egotistical and pretty lead characters because she played another one in Something Borrowed; it came out in 2011, and it starred Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel, Kate Hudson as Darcy and Colin Egglesfield as Dex.

Rachel and Darcy were best friends, but a relationship started between Rachel and Dex… the man who was engaged to Darcy. Later, it turned out that Darcy had been cheating on Dex, too, and was pregnant with another man’s baby. It was a complicated story, and these two wanted to stay friends. It just got too messy, with too many mistakes made and too much hate coming from Darcy.

Viola Fields

Monster-In-Law

Imagine having a mother-in-law as a rom-com villain. That is the plot of Monster-in-Law from 2005.

Charlotte "Charlie" Cantilini (Jennifer Lopez) and Dr. Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan) fall in love, and Kevin’s mother, Viola Fields (Jane Fonda), does everything she can to try and end the relationship!

Marianne Bryant

Everyone knows that Easy A was like The Scarlet Letter, featuring Emma Stone as Olive Penderghast. And in the story, the initial rumor about Olive was spread by Marianne Bryant, Amanda Bynes’ character.

She was supposed to be this nice Christian girl, but she told everyone this gossip and tried to turn everyone against Olive. Mean high school girls really can be the worst.

Lucy Wyman

13 going on 30 the six chicks

Junior high girls can be pretty mean, as well, which was proved further in 13 Going on 30. On Jenna Rink’s 13th birthday, The Six Chicks tricked her into playing Seven Minutes In Heaven; they left her in the closet, alone, and snuck out with her homework.

The leader of this popular girl group was Lucy "Tom-Tom" Wyman, and she was portrayed by Alexandra Kyle at a young age and by Judy Greer as an adult.

Sharpay Evans

Up next would be Sharpay Evans, a high school diva portrayed by Ashley Tisdale in High School Musical. She teamed up with her twin brother to try and take down the stars of the story, Troy and Gabriella.

Sharpay was that typical snotty and pretty girl who was used to getting her way and who wanted to be the best at everything, all the time, no matter what!

Kathryn Merteuil

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn in Cruel Intentions

Cruel Intentions was more of a drama than a comedy, but it had gone down as a successful and popular romance movie. Besides, Kathryn Merteuil belongs on this list.

Played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, she was attractive and affluent, as well as the primary antagonist of the story. She liked everyone to think that she was little miss perfect, but really, she was involved in/with revenge, blackmail, manipulation, and drug abuse.

Regina George

Regina George

And the worst villain of all could have been Regina George from Mean Girls. Like many others on this list, she was well-off, beautiful, fashionable and popular, as the it girl in school and the leader of The Plastics.

Yes, Rachel McAdams will always be remembered for this iconic role!
