Rogue Legacy 2 is a roguelike platformer developed and published by Cellar Door Games. There are different factors in the game that can make them easier or more difficult depending on the situation. Players can choose to play as different characters, battle enemies, and gather loot. The game lets players pilot a cartoon-y character through the medieval setting, and collect pieces of lore throughout the map. Each character has its pros and cons, as well as different classes that players can take advantage of to rise to the top.

In Rogue Legacy 2, traits are assigned to every character when they are created. Different traits can give bonuses to players, and each has its own list of pros and cons. Traits that give bigger boosts for gold can also make runs more difficult, making higher rewards riskier. There are also similar traits for mana, health, and damage, but there is usually a trade-off that needs to be made. At the moment, traits are only unlocked at the character selection stage. At every new playthrough, players can choose one of three characters, all with different traits, classes, weapons, talents, and spells. Traits are also visible in the pause menu, as well as their bonuses.

Every Trait and How They Work in Rogue Legacy 2

Characters in Rogue Legacy 2

There are 37 different traits in Rogue Legacy 2. Some of them change different attacks, while others change how players can view the game. These traits can be broken down to “visual”, “bonus”, “combat”, and “setback”. There are more Visual and Setback traits than any other category of trait. Weigh the pros and cons of each character’s traits before deciding which ones to pick for the playthrough. Or, pick a character with a fun visual trait to make the game more fun.

Combat Traits

There are many combat traits that can affect how difficult or easy the combat is, as well as how enemies will react. Check out some of the traits below to see if they’re what your character needs for the next playthrough.

  • Aerodynamic- The spin kick is replaced by downstrike
  • Endomorph- Enemies can barely move the character
  • Hypergonadism- The knockback to enemies is increased
  • Muscle Weakness- The knockback against enemies is severely reduced

Visual Traits

There are a lot of visual traits within Rogue Legacy 2. These can make the game more fun, or slightly difficult. Many of them will add a filter over the screen, affect how enemies can be seen, or not allow players to see certain parts of the interface. Some of these traits can be considered distracting, but they make the game more interesting to play.

  • Antiquarian- The screen has a retro tint applied
  • Associative Agnosia- The character and enemies are blacked out
  • C.I.P Gold- The character can't see their own health
  • Cartographer- The map is revealed to the character, but there is no position marker
  • Colorblind- Game is played in black and white
  • Diva- Places a spotlight around the character and enemies
  • Histrionic- All numbers are exaggerated
  • Light Sensitivity- Everything is brightened
  • Vertigo - Everything is upside down
  • Nostalgic- Old style tinting is applied
  • Synethesia- Everything leaves behind color trails when moving

Bonus Traits

There are many traits that characters can receive to make the game much easier. Again, each bonus trait has its downside. While it might make the character harder to hurt, it might also make it harder for them to attack enemies.

  • Bookish- The character can deal 150% magic damage and more mana, but 50% health and melee damage
  • Charismatic- The character has a 15% discount at shopkeepers.
  • Disattuned- The character has 25% less health but you can only be hit in the heart
  • FMF Fan- The character has good taste.
  • Gigantism- The character is much bigger
  • Hollow Bones- The character falls more slowly
  • IIB Muscle Fibers- This trait gives the character Super Jump
  • Treasure Hunter- This lets the character start with a random relic
  • OCD- Breaking stuff restores mana

Setback Traits

Setback traits can make the game very difficult to play. Sometimes, enemies will be harder to see, fight, and defeat. Many of these traits give players a greater reward to compensate for their trouble. Players should consider picking a character with a Setback trait to make the game more difficult and rewarding, if they’ve already completed a playthrough successfully with easier traits.

  • Clumsy- Players can break objects on touch
  • Crippling Intellect- This trait reduces health and weapon damage, as well as mana. -75% Health & Weapon Damage, -50% Mana. Mana regenerates over time.
  • Dwarfism- This trait makes players much smaller
  • Ectomorph- Enemies knock players back further
  • Emotional Dysregularity- Mana cost and damage increased by 100%
  • Glaucoma- Only a small area around the character is lit, the rest is black
  • IBS- Characters will sometimes fart when jumping.
  • Tunnel Vision- Only the area directly ahead of the character, across the screen, is visible
  • Puritan- Enemies are blurred
  • Panic Attacks- When characters are hit, the screen is blurred
  • Pacifist- The character cannot attack or deal damage
  • Osteogensis Imperfecta- The character dies in 1 hit
  • Optical Migraine- Everything near the character is blurry, but it clears up at a distance

Choose wisely from this list of traits to decide which character to play as to get the best experience in Rogue Legacy 2. Or, choose a character with a much more difficult trait to make the playthrough more challenging and rewarding. A lot of these traits can also be very funny, so players can get a laugh out of every playthrough, no matter the situation.
