The third season of revved-up soccer/racing game Rocket League is getting a major speed boost via a partnership with legendary auto-sport franchises NASCAR and Formula One. With a season geared towards celebrating the history of competitive racing, it's only natural that two of the most famous and infamous racing franchises would get a chance to take their seat at the head of the table.

While Rocket League is more soccer on wheels than it is track racing, it's historically crossed over with franchises unrelated to either soccer or racing; season 2, for example, got an NFL crossover event ahead of Superbowl LV, while Rocket League served in 2017 as a sponsor to the WWE. Season 3, however, is dedicated to bringing the game back into its automotive roots, and the partnership with American racing franchise NASCAR and European franchise Formula One is a means to that end. Both franchises represent very different driving styles, cars, and races, which will undoubtedly bring some gameplay and automotive variety to their upcoming Rocket League debut.

The crossover event, announced yesterday on Rocket League's official site, offers up a cursory glimpse of what the next season, which is scheduled to start on April 7, will entail, but doesn't say much in terms of specifics. It's been confirmed that the DFH Stadium has been redesigned with a track, and that it will be added to the Casual and Competitive Playlists, Private Matches, and Freeplay. New Competitive Tournament Rewards will be added as usual, but the NASCAR and Formula One bundles won't be appearing until May; updates will be posted in the days leading up to their releases. Meanwhile, Rocket League has released a trailer of the new season, to give fans some idea of what to expect from the new content.

Of course, a season dedicated to competitive racing wouldn't be complete without a new set of wheels, and to that end, Rocket League will be introducing Tyranno, a so-called "master of dash" designed and engineered to compete with the NASCAR and Formula One's legendary speed machines. It's currently unclear whether or not Tyranno will be released ahead of the NASCAR or F1 bundles, but hopefully it will release early to give players time to get familiar with a car designed for racing rather than soccer.

Season 3 of Rocket League starts off with new competitive rewards on April 7, but it'll be at least a month before the NASCAR and Formula One bundles are released - NASCAR will release in early May, with F1 following in mid-May, with no definitive release date at the time of this writing. This should be a golden opportunity for speed demons to strut their stuff in the Rocket League arena.
