Rocket League players are going to get a chance to get in on the action when Super Bowl Sunday rolls around, thanks to an NFL crossover event. This is not the first time Rocket League and the NFL have collaborated. In December 2020, players were able to purchase an NFL decal pack, which featured Rocket League vehicle skins for all 32 NFL teams. The event went live ahead of the NFL playoffs, not only trying to capitalize on the excitement in the real sports world, but also to continue the momentum from the launch of Rocket League season 2.

Lately, there's been a trend of major sports leagues partnering with video games for special events and promotions, many of which give players the opportunity to claim exclusive prizes. This new crossover comes on the heels of the latest Rocket League event, Frosty Fest, featuring new challenges and a new game mode.

Now, Rocket League is teasing a week-long NFL Super Bowl LV Celebration, kicking off on February 2. The event will run through February 8 and will feature a brand new Rocket League mode, Gridiron. In addition, there will be three Event Challenges that can be completed to unlock the "Gridiron Guru" Player Title, cosmetic wheels featuring NFL team logos, and 20,000 XP.

Rocket League Launches NFL Decal Pack

Gridiron, the new mode, features 4 on 4 play, with an American football replacing the Rocket League ball. Whichever player touches the ball will become the ball carrier, allowing them to take it and run all the way, hand it off to a teammate, or pass it by dodging. The ball carrier can still single jump, but double jumping drops the ball. Unlike traditional Rocket League, each goal is worth either 7 points (if the ball is attached to a player when it goes into the goal) or 3 points (if a loose ball goes into the goal). There are also boundaries, and players can go out of bounds if they cross the marked line on the Arena wall.

This new game mode is sure to be a welcome distraction for fans who are trying to get through the Super Bowl pregame shows or are uninterested in watching the halftime event. The crossover will also feature a dedicated Gridiron playlist for the limited time mode, if Rocket League players want to utilize it over the next week. With all of these exciting new challenges, tons of XP, and a brand new game mode, fans are sure to drop a few Rocket League credits before they lace up their spikes and put on their pads for Gridiron.
