The Knight Industries Two Thousand (aka KITT) from the iconic '80s series Knight Rider is once again available to purchase in the Rocket League store. Car enthusiasts and fans of the show will recognize the vehicle as a modified black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with blazing red lights.

KITT's return comes as part of Rocket League's Summer Road Trip event, a month-long rollout of assorted content bundles spanning the entire month of July. The event features the return of many classic cars and limited-time modes (LTMs). Summer Road Trip began on July 1 with the Red, White, & Boom Bundle, featuring the Ford F-150 RLE and the Heatseeker LTM running through July 5. Afterward, players were able to celebrate Rocket League's sixth anniversary with the Summer Formal Bundle. This limited run was a collection of dapper add-ons players could use to fancy up their car, but it was only available on July 7.

The latest thematic content available as part of Rocket League's Summer Road Trip is the Knight Rider Bundle, running from July 8 to July 14 according to the official Rocket League blog. Coming in at 800 credits, the bundle features the main KITT Body, Wheels, Boost, Gullwing Topper, and recognizable Engine Audio. Notably, the red boost moves side to side across the rear of the car. A Knight Industries Player Banner and a Knight Rider Player Banner are also included as part of the bundle. Developer Psyonix advertised the content drop with a short trailer on the game's Twitter page. Though not as long or referential as the trailer for the original Rocket League Knight Rider Car Pack, this trailer still pays sufficient homage to the show's iconic intro.

Licensing KITT makes perfect sense for Rocket League, which is now a free-t0-play game (owned by Fortnite developer Epic Games) dependent on cross-promoting popular IP, as it recently did with F9's rocket car. KITT as emblematic of the 1980s, a period drenched in nostalgia for both people who grew up during that time and those who have simply consumed a large amount of content from that era. The car will undoubtedly be a popular choice for many fans looking to score big in a classic ride. Meanwhile, players uninterested in the latest bundle can still participate in the 2v2 Beach Ball LTM running through July 12 while they wait for the next set of content.

Summer Road Trip is a great way to keep players engaged and excited with regular drops of skins and modes. While the event is almost halfway done, the back half of bundles are loaded with massively popular IP that should entice a wide range of players. Beginning July 15, players will have access to the DeLorean Time Machine as part of the Back to the Future Bundle. One week later, Summer Road Trip ends with the Jurassic World Bundle, featuring the franchise's iconic Jeep Wrangler.
