Rocket League is hugely popular, with a community of over 11 million players and a number of Game of the Year awards given to the title in 2015. Psyonix, the game's creator, has tried to keep the game fresh with new content packs for fans at reasonable prices. And now, a new pack has now been teased for the game, featuring the new Batmobile from the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The pack will also include three exclusive Antenna Flags for players to use in-game.
The Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack will be available on March 8, a couple of weeks before the film it's promoting is released in theaters. The Antenna Flags in the pack will feature references to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, allowing players to spice up their cars with symbols from DC's Trinity. Pricing for the DLC pack is just $1.99, or the regional equivalent.
This isn't the first time Rocket League has featured some high-profile licensing in its DLC. Last October, Psyonix released a Back to the Future DLC car pack that added Doc Brown's time-traveling DeLorean from Back to the Future Part II as a playable vehicle in the game. That car pack was released in conjunction with the renewed popularity of Back to the Future II, due to Marty McFly arriving in the future on October 21, 2015.
While some gamers scoff at most of the DLC tie-ins we see in games, Rocket League's tie-ins seem to be pretty well received. The reasonable pricing of these tie-in DLC packs mixed with the fun of playing soccer with vehicles like the Batmobile or the DeLorean make them the sort of add-ons that fans aren't worried about spending a couple of dollars on. If they prove popular enough, then they may lead to more promotional DLC in the future, and more options in Rocket League certainly isn't a bad thing.
Of course, one has to wonder which movie or pop-culture reference will make an appearance in Rocket League next. Fans would likely eat up Mad Max-themed DLC, but there are a number of iconic vehicles that would be a good fit. Regardless of what comes along down the road, players will likely start seeing a number of Batmobiles in the game in just a few weeks.
Rocket League will release its Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack DLC on Tuesday, March 8.
