Psyonix's motorsports soccer game, Rocket League, is free-to-play on all platforms, and it has reached over 1 million concurrent players for the first time ever. Rocket League has maintained a fairly large player base for the past five years, but going free-to-play was enough to push the number of concurrent players into the seven-digit range.

Rocket League was released in July of 2015 and instantly wowed gamers with its unique combination of cars and soccer. Over the past five years, over 40 million players have downloaded the game, but only ever had less than 1 million concurrent players. Rocket League has made name for itself in both the casual and competitive gaming spaces and has collaborated with the likes of Nintendo and Stranger Things which has helped maintain its loyal fanbase. Now, more players than ever are flooding to Rocket League during its first week as free-to-play.

Multiple Twitter users have tweeted about Rocket League's accomplishment of garnering over 1 million concurrent players. Notable gaming insider Rod Breslau was among the first to announce the achievement alongside Psyonix Studio's co-head Corey Davis who posted an image of the live player count. It only took five years for Rocket League to reach such a prestigious number of players, and will only gain more popularity as Psyonix works closely with Epic Games to provide an even better experience.

If Psyonix thinks the number of concurrent players is impressive now, there is no telling what it will think come this weekend. September 26 marks the start of Rocket League's Llama-Rama event where the motorsports game is teaming up with Fortnite to provide a unique in-game event. Fortnite is the most popular game on the market with players having cumulatively put more hours into Fortnite than humans have been on the Earth. The event offers free in-game cosmetics for both Rocket League and Fortnite, so there is no doubt that Fortnite's fanbase will rush to Rocket League to claim the free in-game goodies.

While Rocket League may have seen some server issues due to the influx of players, it wasn't enough to stop the game's momentum. Rocket League is a polished and incredibly fun experience deserving of the sudden exposure it has obtained. Alongside Epic Games, Rocket League will perform well in the future and it is an exciting notion to think of the future possibilities. One million is a nice number, but it will surely be blown away come this weekend when Llama-Rama begins.
