Warning: contains spoilers for Robin #2

The latest Robin, Damian Wayne, has made a habit of claiming that he was trained by the best of the best, now that includes Ravager, the daughter of Nightwing's arch-nemesis. Though she isn't as well known as her insidious father, Rose Wilson is a capable fighter who will undoubtedly have more than a few lessons for the arrogant Damian.

Damian's latest adventures in the DC Universe started when he discovered the mysterious League of Lazarus while adventuring with his mother. Though Talia urged Damian to forget about it, the ever-headstrong son of Batman couldn't help but investigate further. This eventually led him to the Mortal Kombat-esque Lazarus Tournament. Even Damian himself knows he's going down a dark path as he reveals to a hallucination of Alfred. Unfortunately, his drive to prove himself overcomes any moral scruples he might have. When he finally arrives at the tournament's island, he's stopped by the daughter of Deathstroke, Ravager, who recognizes Damian and wonders what he's doing in the deadly tournament. He completely ignores her though and instantly demands a fight. He's met by the new anti-hero Flatline. Despite all of Damian's arrogance and bravado, Flatline easily bests him in combat, literally ripping his heart out.

Now, in Robin #2 from Joshua Williamson and Gleb Melnikov, Damian wakes up with his body fully restored. Living up to its name, Lazarus Island is a place where no one can die. As soon as Damina wakes up, he's greeted by Ravager, who gives him the details on everything he missed. While Damian was out, the people organizing the tournament explained its rules. Much like a video game, Lazarus Island will resurrect every fighter three times. After the third, the fighter's soul is forfeit. Fighting can only take place during the day, so no assassinating people in their sleep. Lastly, whoever survives the tournament will be gifted with permanent immortality. Rose also explains the tournament's deadliest fighters. Though Robin initially brushes off her attempts at helping him, he takes them a little more seriously when she abducts him in the middle of the night. Her first lesson for Damian ends up being how to have fun.

Ravager training Damian

While Rose gives no reason in the comic itself, it's very easy to see that she's probably indirectly doing it as a favor to Nightwing. Though Ravager initially started as a villain to the Teen Titans, she has more often been a member and ally of the team, as she eventually came to accept just how evil her father truly was. There's also the possibility that Rose sees more than a little bit of herself in Damian, as Rose had a rather rough childhood and started out as incredibly serious. However, her time with the Titans eventually proved to her that she's more than just a weapon.

Despite how silly it sounds, Rose teaching Damian how to have fun is entirely necessary. Batman might have been a better role model for Damian than Talia, but even Batman could never give Damian what he truly needs a proper childhood. Rose claims that Damian learning to have fun will help him in combat, but more than that, it will help him become a more complete person. Robin's new teacher might be the daughter of Nightwing's greatest enemy, but she's also the only person who can teach Damian that he's more than just a warrior.
