Warning! Spoilers ahead for Robin #8

In DC Comics' new issue of Robin, Damian Wayne faces his final fight in the Lazarus Tournament, his last opponent being none other than Connor Hawke, the secret son of the Green Arrow. While Robin entered the secret tournament of fighters to test himself and investigate the true motives of the new League of Lazarus, the prize of immortality is being offered as well, thanks to the power of the supernatural healing waters that have long kept Damian's grandfather, Ra's Al Ghul, alive.

In previous issues of Robin from writer Joshua Williamson and artist Gleb Melnikov, Damian battled in a series of epic showdowns to the death in the tournament where every fighter has three lives, their third death being the only one with permanence thanks to the Lazarus Pits. Ruled by Mother Soul, the leader of Lazarus Island has recently been revealed to be the mother of Ra's al Ghul (making her Robin's great-grandmother). Apparently, the island needs to feed on violence in order to bring forth something very terrible, though Robin planned to stop the League of Lazarus before that could happen.

However, the son of Batman still has to fight the last contender: Connor Hawke. While the two had already fought previously (where Damian lost), Robin still has one more death before his next one is permanent. Now, Robin #8 sees Robin and Connor squaring off with one another with their bird namesakes superimposed behind them, making for a visually epic duel. While they would have been evenly matched, Robin's prior wounds resulted in Hawke getting the upper hand, surprisingly killing Damian as a result.

After this final fight, the son of the Green Arrow and champion of the League of Shadows has become the winner of the Lazarus Tournament (with no one willing to challenge him and risk dying for good). However, it seems as though the promise of immortality at the end of the tournament might not be all it's cracked up to be. Considering that the issue ends with a literal demon coming from the depths of the island, things are probably going to take a turn for the worse especially after the monster kills Connor following the duel between the sons of Batman and Green Arrow.

While Robin comes back to life by the end of the issue, it seems likely that he alone won't be enough to stop the demon the League of Lazarus has brought forth. However, with both Leagues turning on all the past contenders Damian might be able to unite his former rivals together to fight back now that the demon has possessed Hawke's body. While the Lazarus Tournament might have ended, it's clear that Robin's final fight on the island has yet to come.
