A brief glimpse at Robin embracing the power of the Red Lanterns teased a potential story for Damian Wayne that absolutely deserves to be told. When Batgirl was under the influence of a plant that once enthralled Superman, she saw a hypothetical adventure that just begs to be explored.

Damian has a reputation for being one of the more emotionally driven Robins and for good reason. For the majority of his life, he was raised by his mother, Talia al Ghul's League of Assassins. The stresses of such lethal training on a young mind left Damian with a warped perspective when he finally left her side and joined his father's more noble mission. As Robin, one of the biggest things he had to overcome in order to grow as a hero was to stop acting on impulse and use better judgement, not to mention stop killing the enemies unfortunate enough to cross his path.

It seems that Damian's emotional side may have gotten the better of him in an imagined future dreamed up by Stephanie Brown in Batgirl #24 by Bryan Q. Miller and Pere Pérez. After discovering that her villainous father has been growing a Black Mercy plant, Brown is subjected to a powdered version that Cluemaster blows into her face. Batgirl survives the experience, but a curious Barbara Gordon wants to know what Stephanie saw. Multiple visions of Batgirl are shown, each teasing a potential story like Batgirl taking on the Royal Flush Gang. One notable vision shows Batgirl, Oracle and Robin taking on a swarm of Black Lanterns. With Steph and Barbara as Blue and Green Lanterns, respectively, Robin is shown under the influence of a Red Lantern ring, wielding dual energy swords and spewing their trademark acidic bile.

Of course, no matter what the future held for Stephanie Brown, Batgirl #24 was the final issue before the DC Universe was rebooted with the New 52. With a new continuity established, the chances of any of Brown's visions coming to fruition went down to virtually zero. However, that doesn't mean there isn't something to be said for giving the Bat-Family a couple of Power Rings, particularly the one member with the biggest anger issues. Damian has tried hard to be better in the years since he began walking a more heroic path, but he still struggles occasionally. Being of two worlds has caused a frustration in the young man that far exceeds any normal growing pains.

What better way to have Damian explore and potentially resolve the rage within him than by allowing him to confront it head-on? It worked for Supergirl who found a way to quell her anger at the world by briefly joining the Corps. It's not the most wholesome therapy, but it's an intriguing prospect. While Damian as a Red Lantern was just a dream, there may be a fantastic Robin story there in the hands of a good creative team.
