Robert Downey Jr. revisits his iconic role as Iron Man to raise funds for his nonprofit organization. Launching Marvel Studios in 2008 was no easy feat, as president Kevin Feige and his team had to put the rest of their character catalog up as collateral just to secure funding for Jon Favreau's Iron Man. The project itself was risky, but the stakes were increased when Marvel cast Downey, an actor who was considered an incredible talent but was plagued by a history of substance abuse and even a short stint in jail. Luckily for all involved, things worked out exceptionally well, with Iron Man becoming both a critical and box office success, and officially launching the MCU.

Following his debut, Downey's Tony Stark became the poster character for the MCU. The actor played the role 10 times in the span of the Infinity Saga before wrapping it up in 2019 via Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Endgame. While Iron Man's story ended in tragedy as he sacrificed himself to ensure the future of the universe free of Thanos' threat, there was poetry in how his character arc was finished, since Stark started as a self-centered industrialist who didn't care about anyone else. It's been more than two years since Iron Man officially exited the MCU, but while the franchise is working on moving forward with Phase 4, his presence is still missed.

So, when Downey shared on his Instagram account a video of himself signing Iron Man posters, fans were pleasantly surprised. The actor is revisiting his iconic role to raise funds for his nonprofit — Footprint Coalition. The actor said in the video that "with every signature, the planet is getting greener." Ever since leaving the Marvel universe in 2019, Downey has distanced himself from the franchise. Instead, the actor has focused on other endeavors, including the establishment of the Footprint Coalition, which aims to use advanced technology for the good of the environment. He has also nabbed a couple of projects outside of the superhero bubble with upcoming roles in Jamie Foxx's All-Star Weekend and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. That doesn't mean, however, that Downey has totally moved on from his days as Iron Man. He joined his fellow Marvel Studios actors on a couple of occasions including during Joe and Anthony Russo's election awareness campaign. Downey also recently sent MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson a congratulatory message for being the 35th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award.

Dubbed as one of the best casting choices in comic book films, Downey was brilliant as Iron Man. In fact, he was so good in the role that he has become synonymous with the character. However, that's not Downey's only contribution to the MCU. Outside of his acting responsibilities, the actor was also a great leader for Marvel Studios stars. Fellow actors have talked about how he would be accommodating, especially to newcomers, in making sure that they feel at ease. More recently, even his fellow original Avenger, Jeremy Renner, called him his mentor. With Iron Man holding such a special place in the hearts of Marvel stars and fans alike, even a brief reprisal of Downey's role like the one in his recent post is a true delight to see.
