Avengers star Robert Downey Jr. celebrated Halloween 2018 Thanos style: by collecting all six Infinity Stones and turning them into pumpkins. The spookiest season of the year is also a great time to spot celebrities getting creative with their costumes and having as much fun as everyone else, and it seems like this year Downey is focused on delivering artistic flair.

The last time we saw the Infinity Stones, they had been assembled into Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet and used to wreak some serious destruction at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. The Mad Titan snapped himself away at the end of the movie so that he could go and enjoy a quiet retirement, but apparently the actor behind Iron Man snuck into Thanos' retirement hut and stole the Infinity Stones back so that he could make the universe's most powerful Halloween decorations.

Shared on Downey's social media account, the pumpkins are very artfully designed. Each has a carving of whatever the Infinity Stone was formerly contained in (the Eye of Agamotto for the Time Stone, Loki's scepter for the Mind Stone, the Orb for the Power Stone etc.), and each pumpkin glows with a corresponding colored light. The Soul Stone is slightly tricky, because it's only ever been contained in the Infinity Gauntlet, but the bottom right pumpkin appears to be a carving of Red Skull's face.

Downey should probably keep the Infinity Stones somewhere safe if Iron Man and his (remaining) friends are to have any hope of undoing the damage done by Thanos in next summer's team-up, Avengers 4. Aside from what we've been able to glean from set photos, we still know very little about the movie - in fact, we don't even know what it will be called yet. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been posting teases and puzzles to social media during filming, so it may be worth taking a closer look at these pumpkins just in case they somehow spell out Avengers 4's subtitle.

Elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mark Ruffalo shared a collection of photos from fans who dressed up as the Hulk for Halloween, Infinity War absentee Jeremy Renner tried out kangaroo and chicken costumes with his family, and Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt shared his own carved pumpkin on Instagram: a pumpkin eating a smaller pumpkin. How horrifying!
