The cast of Rob Zombie’s The Munsters remake wish fans a Merry Christmas in a new photo. Zombie is best known as the founder and lead singer for the heavy metal group White Zombie but has helmed a number of notable horror film titles, including The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween (2007), and Halloween 2 (2009). His latest project, confirmed in June, will be an adaptation of the classic 1960s sitcom The Munsters, produced for Universal Entertainment.

The original show depicted a family of monsters who relocated from Transylvania to settle into the American address, 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Fans have been treated to a number of BTS images from the cult director, with snaps of the intricate Munster family home and previews of cast members stepping into full costume. Among those starring in the new film is Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa Munster, and Sylvester McCoy as the family servant Igor.

Details on how the new adaptation will diverge or imitate the original have so far been sparse. Though the new image may inspire thoughts of the 1996 film The Munsters Scary Little Christmas, there has also been no indication that Zombie’s new project is set to be a holiday feature. With rumors circulating that the new picture will release in the Fall of 2022 on Peacock, it may not be long until audiences receive an update on the full premise of the adaptation.

Boasting a cult following of music and horror fans, Zombie seems like a reliable choice to helm the adaptation after failed past attempts. Even with a name and record which will draw in a broad host of viewers, it still remains to be seen if the new title will be a critical success. Straying slightly outside of Zombie’s film purview, The Munsters takes a more family-friendly approach to the horror archetypes that the 56-year-old musician and filmmaker is familiar with. With regular updates shared by Zombie and the rumored release date approaching, fans may not have to wait long to see if The Munsters will be a success.
