Rob Schneider stars in the Netflix special Asian Momma, Mexican Kids and spends most of the act making jokes about familial and racial issues. On the surface, the comedian could easily be viewed as a "boomer" who is trying to stay relevant by provoking the audience, but the stand-up act reveals Schneider's comedy is linked to his own heritage and immediate family. Still, some viewers may be curious about what's true and what's not.

A former Saturday Night Live cast member, Schneider is an accomplished character actor who is best known for appearing in numerous Happy Madison films with Adam Sandler. In recent years, he's been vocal on social media about his political beliefs, though Asian Momma, Mexican Kids is surprisingly devoid of didactic commentaries about the art of comedy and cancel culture. Overall, Schneider primary focuses on his life as a father and husband, and how topics of race are part of his everyday life.

Schneider gently trolls the audience in Asian Momma, Mexican Kids by opening with misdirection. While imitating his wife, the comedian uses a Mexican accent, only to state that she's not actually Mexican. "It's just more fun to do that voice," Schneider says, and tells the audience that his wife "could" be Mexican. The first 10 minutes of the Netflix act include even more accents and wife jokes, with Schneider then revealing to the audience that his mother is Filipino, which makes him part-Asian. Schneider comments on identity politics and his public perception, stating, "I'm not Asian enough." After the personal reveal, he then adopts an Asian accent throughout the show, which connects to one half of the comedy special's title.

The other half of Schneider's title links to his wife, 24 years his junior. In 2011, Schneider married Mexican producer/actress Patricia Azarcoya Arce. The couple has two children, and star together in the series Real Rob, a Netflix show that aired for two seasons between 2015 and 2017. In Asian Momma, Mexican Kids, Rob Schneider repeatedly imitates his wife using a Mexican accent, and ultimately brings her out on stage at the end of the show, along with their two children. Some viewers may believe that it's distasteful for Schneider to use various accents in the Netflix special, but the logic is that he's mimicking two important women in his life, rather than using racial stereotypes for the sake of comedy.

Schneider ends Asian Momma, Mexican Kids on Netflix by inviting his oldest daughter on stage for a duet. Elle King is a Grammy Award-nominated recording artist who is best known for her 2014 single "Ex's & Oh's." Before performing a cover of Roy Orbison's "In Dreams," Schneider says, "I used to be Rob Schneider, and now I'm Elle King's dad." Filmed in Salt Lake City, Asian Momma, Mexican Kids marks the first time that Rob and Elle have performed together in public. The comedy special officially ends not with more racial jokes, but rather with the Schneider family assembling on stage, which is followed by a photographic tribute to the comic's mother.
