Screen Rant has the honor of exclusively premiering two key tracks from the soundtrack for Apple TV+'s upcoming feminist anthology, Roar. The fresh new series arrives on April 15, consisting of eight individual episodes that tie together thematically. Nicole Kidman stars in one of the segments and serves as an executive producer alongside its writers, GLOW creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. Based on a short story collection by Cecelia Ahern, Roar explores how various women react to improbable circumstances in surreal and often absurdist plots.
The Roar soundtrack was composed by award-winning musician Isobel Waller-Bridge, who has composed music for highly-acclaimed series such as Fleabag and Black Mirror, as well as period films like Emma. She is best known for her electronic and contemporary classical music. Much like the shows she has scored, her music tends to have a perfect mixture of the eerie and the whimsical. The multi-faceted Roar score in particular merges vibrant electronics with piano and vocalizations, adding in an eclectic mix of orchestral elements that express the emotional states of the extraordinary female characters that are interspersed through the anthology series.
The first track Screen Rant can exclusively preview is called "The Woman Who Ate Photographs," named after Nicole Kidman's episode. You can hear the haunting song below:
The protagonist, Robin, must deal with her son getting ready to leave for college as well as her mother's health declining after a dementia diagnosis. In an attempt to preserve her past, she begins eating her family photographs.
The next exclusive Roar track is titled "The Woman Who Sat On The Shelf," named after the episode starring Betty Gilpin (The Tomorrow War). The yearning she goes through is evident in Waller-Bridge's song, which you can listen to below:
As the wife of a famous business mogul (played by Daniel Dae Kim, who will soon be in Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation), Amelia is literally kept on a shelf to be admired by all. But once her husband begins ignoring her, she is free to step down from her trophy case and actually see the world around her.
