UFC Champion fighter Conor McGregor is set to make his acting debut in Prime Video's remake of Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal. The original Road House was released in 1989 and starred Patrick Swayze in the lead role of Dalton alongside Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, and Ben Gazzara. The remake is being directed by Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman and co-stars Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery. The remake traces a former UFC fighter, played by Gyllenhaal, who "takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems."

McGregor (aka The Notorious) is a champion UFC fighter who has competed since 2008, with a record of 22-6-0. The Dublin-born fighter has been ranked as the world's highest-paid athlete in recent years and has frequently been the face of controversy with his antics outside the ring. McGregor has yet to appear in a Hollywood film, although he's come close, almost starring in Vin Diesel's xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, bowing out before it got started. He also appeared in the campaign for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as the character Bradley Fillion.

McGregor has now signed on to star opposite Gyllenhaal in the Road House reboot (per Deadline) in an undisclosed role. Although his character details are being kept under wraps, it's being reported that McGregor will play an original character and not himself in the film, which goes into production this month and will debut on Prime Video. Insiders say that McGregor has been eager to get into the Hollywood game, but has waited for the right fit to make his debut, which will be the Road House remake. McGregor shared the news about the role on social media, which can be seen below:

Reportedly, when McGregor heard that there was interest in casting him for the reboot, the fighter sat down and watched the original Road House for the first time, which he enjoyed enough to meet with producers about a part in it. The Road House reboot is being produced by Joel Silver, who also produced the original, and after meeting with McGregor, the fighter is said to have loved the idea for the film's updated story compared to the original. Interestingly, McGregor was born in 1988, one year before the original was released, making him just a baby when Road House was playing in theaters.

MMA and UFC fighters making the leap to Hollywood is not an uncommon trend, but it's cool to see McGregor finally make the move. The champion fighter has the personality and presence to easily slide into an action-movie role, giving off strong Jason Statham vibes that could translate well to the big (or small) screen. Other MMA fighters who have made the transition include the likes of Georges St-Pierre in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Gina Carano in The Mandalorian, Ronda Rousey in The Expendables 3, and many more. McGregor will ultimately find out if Hollywood is for him, but starring in a Road House remake seems like a fitting kick-off to his acting career.
