Toni Topaz and Cheryl Blossom are one of the most adored couples on Riverdale. These badass young women truly bring out the best in each other; Toni makes Cheryl safe enough to open her big heart, and Cheryl believes in Toni so much that her natural leader personality shines through.

But like many of the core couples on the show, Choni has been together for a long time. It might be fun to spice things up with some romantic musical chairs. So, here are 10 candidates who should take Cheryl's seat.

Ethel Muggs

Would Ethel actually be better for Toni than Cheryl? That would be a big fat no. But just think of the juicy drama to be had from two fierce redheads battling for the affections of Ms. Topaz.

Ethel has always been a bit of an outcast, and she really hasn't had any healthy relationships. She could use someone steady like Toni in her life. Besides, any excuse to get Shannon Purser back on the show after Ethel randomly disappeared is one fans would jump on.

Sweet Pea

To be clearer than Sweetwater River in the summertime, a Toni-Sweet Pea coupling would not make the show better. Sweet Pea is boring with a capital B, hence why viewers have barely seen him in season 4. Even when he's had a more prominent role, he's never been the focus of any major storyline.

But while life with Cheryl definitely has its thrills, someone as low-key as Toni has to get sick of the drama sometimes. Sweet Pea is less complicated (and exciting) than a bowl of oatmeal. Plus, he's a fellow Southside Serpent, a commonality he and Toni already bond over.

Joan Berkley

As a member of the Quill and Skull, Stonewall Prep's insidious secret society, Joan has committed her share of crimes. But really, somebody doing bad things for their gang is par for the course in Riverdale, and Joan is hardly the ringleader. If she hooked up with Toni, Joan could learn the positive side of belonging to a group. While there will always be something for Cheryl to do on the show, Joan is an intriguing character who would be fun to see more of.

Munroe Moore

Despite her twisted family, Cheryl has still grown up in the lap of luxury, whereas both Toni and Munroe didn't have had to fight for and earn every win in life.

That's not at all to say that people of different socioeconomic backgrounds can't be together, but Toni often seems uncomfortable holed up at Thistlehouse. One gets the sense that she would much rather enjoy spending her time doing something worthwhile. Imagine Toni and Munroe working alongside each other at Fred Andrews Community Center. Not only would that be romantic and sweet, but it would be way more of a fit for Toni than living in the middle of a gothic novel.

Josie McCoy

Cheryl is a confident, brazen woman who lives life by the belief that whatever she wants is hers for the taking. But on the flip side, she can also be quite needy — way more than her girlfriend, Toni.

If Toni were looking for a girlfriend every bit as tough as Cheryl, but just a little more self-reliant, she could do a lot worse than Josie McCoy. Josie is a musician who's every bit as ambitious as she is talented. Like Toni, she's not afraid to put in the work to achieve her goals. Plus, a relationship with Josie would mean that Toni could see what life outside of Riverdale has to offer.

Reggie Mantle

Like with Ethel, this pick is another shameless attempt at getting a good character back on the show after they appear to have vanished off the face of the earth.

Reggie may seem shallow and vapid, but his character arc is eerily similar to Cheryl's. Both started out as arrogant bullies who come from wealth, but hide their toxic home lives. Audiences got to see Reggie's softer side when he was involved with Veronica, and he proved to be a loyal, dependable boyfriend. Toni could continue to bring out the goodness in him, and in turn, he's way less likely than Cheryl to fly off the handle when things get rough.

Veronica Lodge

Toni totally has a thing for rich chicks who buck their parents' wicked ways and create their own path in life. Both Veronica and Cheryl should be proud of themselves for accomplishing so much at such a young age, but the former is clearly the high achiever between the two. She's also much more independent, which seems like it would definitely appeal to the like-minded Toni.

Jughead Jones

During his brief breakup with Betty, Jughead proved to have red-hot chemistry with Toni. Both are Serpent-strong individuals who defy societal expectations. The main difference is that Jughead has dreamed of being a writer practically since birth and it's unclear what Toni's real passion is.

One thing is for sure, she's not going to discover herself tangled up in silk sheets at Thistlehouse. While it's time to face the possibility that Cheryl is holding Toni back, fans know Jughead never would.

Betty Cooper

Continuing with this infiltration of the core four, why not a relationship with Betty? These two are (mostly) levelheaded ladies who get the job done. Really, the only reason they're not closer is the whole Jughead factor. Take him out of the equation, and there's not only the possibility of friendship, but maybe something more. And if Betty seems too bubbly for Toni after Cheryl, remember that Miss Cooper is the daughter of a serial killer and has one heck of a dark side.

Archie Andrews

Think of the drama. Not only would Cheryl hit the roof, but Veronica would be right there along with her. Throw in the fact that there's been serious Barchie rumblings this season, and this could turn into World War 3 at Riverdale High.

But juiciest of conflicts aside, Archie and Toni both share a deep-rooted love for Riverdale. They both want it to be the safe town it once allegedly was. Arm in arm, these two could do some real good for the town, while also doing some real good for each other in their downtime.
