The Riverdale season 6 trailer teases a "riveting" five-episode kickoff event. The show, which is a gritty, updated version of the classic Archie comics characters, began its run in 2017. The show kicked off by taking bold strides instantly, throwing its formerly wholesome teen characters into a twisted murder mystery, but through the years it has encompassed gangs, drugs, cryptids, cults, musical episodes, and a massive time jump. The show stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, and Mädchen Amick.

Riverdale season 5 just concluded, airing its finale yesterday, October 6. There won't be much of a turnaround for the show, considering that season 6 begins airing on November 16. Production on Riverdale season 6 began back at the beginning of September and is expected to run through June 2022. Season 6 is set to begin with a 5-episode special event. Presumably they will then take a holiday hiatus to allow production to catch up a little bit.

The CW (via TV Promos) has dropped the newest Riverdale season 6 trailer. The teaser is light on plot details, especially considering that viewers just found out the characters' fates at the end of the tumultuous Riverdale season 5. However, it looks like the special event will lead the beloved characters through a seemingly Midsommar-inspired plotline full of intrigue. Check out the video below:

On top of this big event shaking things up, there will be some cast changes in the coming season. Ashleigh Murray's Josie already returned in a late season 5 episode after starring on the short-lived spinoff Katy Keane, so she will likely be returning for good in the new season. She'll be filling the void left by Mark Consuelos, who plays Veronica's father Hiram Lodge. He will not be a season regular, though there is still a chance he might appear in some capacity. Considering how important his character is in stirring up drama among both the adults and the teens in Riverdale, even if he's not onscreen, his influence will still be felt throughout the season.

It will be interesting to see what choices Riverdale season 6 ultimately makes in presenting this plotline. From the look of things, the show is going back in the cult direction, or at least performing some sort of ritual spring ceremony. The show already had a long cult plotline in an earlier season, so if they're going back to that well, it means they have something even bigger and gnarlier up their sleeve. If there's one thing fans can count on the series for, it's to amp everything up to 11 whenever it gets the opportunity.
