Less than two months out from the season 2 premiere of Riverdale, The CW has released a gripping new promo and foreboding poster for the series. The promo showcases the fallout from season 1's horrifying cliffhanger and teases a hearty dose of (even more) character drama. The poster, on the other hand, features an ominous look at Pop's Diner with only certain letters illuminated, spelling out the word "DIE."

Loosely based on the beloved, long-running Archie Comics, Riverdale is a teen drama that is surprisingly well-constructed and addictive. The first season ran for 13 episodes in the spring of 2017 and is already scheduled for its second season later this fall. Featuring a list of familiar faces – Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Josie, and, of course, Archie – Riverdale is a new twist on some well-known characters.

Archie, as portrayed by KJ Apa, has proven to maintain quite the dark side in season 1 of the hit drama, but it appears as though the worst is yet to come for our protagonist. Perhaps looking to seek retribution, Archie is seen at the end of the above Riverdale season 2 promo with a gun in hand and a rather serious look on his face. Betty, who is played by Lili Reinhart, will seemingly be going toe-to-toe with her mother yet again, and Cole Sprouse's Jughead looks to be as troubled as ever.

Pop's Diner, continually seen as a safe haven throughout the first season, feels like something out of a horror movie in the above poster (from Archie Comics' Twitter page). In conjunction with the promo, Pop's Diner is teased as a sort of battleground in the second season. Between the final shot of the promotional teaser and this sinister look at the diner in this poster, it would seem as though it could be the setting of an epic showdown.

The finale of Riverdale's inaugural season left viewers with countless unanswered questions. Several running story arcs were tied up quite nicely, but countless new plotlines and mysteries are just now surfacing. Some relationships are blooming and others are being forcefully ripped apart. And as events come to a head, Riverdale looks to be even darker and more intense in its sophomore effort.

For those who have yet to check out this addicting drama - or those who simply wish to revisit the twisting story before season 2 debuts - all 13 episodes of Riverdale season 1 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
