The first look at Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge has been revealed. On Riverdale, the teenagers are considered the main characters. Much like the Archie comics the show is adapted from, the show's protagonists are Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead - along with their classmates Cheryl, Kevin, and Josie. However, that does not mean the adults are relegated to the background. Archie's father Fred was at the center of the season one finale cliffhanger, Cheryl's father Clifford was the answer to the season long mystery of who killed Jason Blossom, and plenty of additional drama was provided by Jughead's father, Veronica's mother, and both of Betty's high-strung parents.
Sometimes it seems like most of the teenagers in Riverdale are being raised by single parents. Archie and Jughead's mothers both left town, Josie's father is a musician who lives life on the road instead of with his wife and daughter, and Cheryl's mother is now a widow. Veronica has been living with just one parent as well - she and her mother Hermione moved to Hermione's old home after her father Hiram Lodge was arrested for embezzlement.
In season 2, though, Hiram Lodge will be out of jail and coming to Riverdale to be with his beloved wife and daughter once more. EW has now revealed the first image of actor Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, with his wife once more by his side:
The image appears to take place at some kind of celebration, judging by the balloons. It's a bit hard to tell, but it looks like the location is Pop's - perhaps it is a grand reopening happening some time after Fred Andrews was shot in the middle of the favorite local restaurant. Consuelos is looking rather dapper in a suit and tie, every bit the business man he has been reported to be. And according to Consuelos, having Hermione on his arm once more is very important to Hiram Lodge:
“He loves loves loves his family and he’s fiercely protective over all of that and anything that has anything to do or comes into contact with his family. Also, he probably loves power a little bit too. He’s enamored with that.”
Some fans may wonder how much he actually loves his family, considering that in the first season Lodge threatened his wife in order to make Veronica provide testimony to help get him released from prison. Not that Veronica is feeling much love for her father lately; she blames him - not without reason - for the financial struggles and attempted suicide of her friend Ethel Muggs' father (and for a long time, Veronica considered Hiram one of the main suspects in the murder of Jason Blossom). If Lodge wants to win back the love and trust of his daughter, he's certainly got his work cut out for him.
Riverdale season 2 premieres on The CW Wednesday, October 11 at 8 pm.
