A new image from the upcoming Riverdale season 2 premiere showing the life of Archie's (KJ Apa) father Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) hanging in the balance has been released. The soapy CW teen drama based off of the Archie comics took the TV world by storm in its first season by giving the classic characters of Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) updated storylines and edgy twists.

While season 1 of Riverdale focused on the murder of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), season 2 will follow a new mystery related to the shooting of Fred in Pop's Diner. The shocking cliffhanger of season 1 has left a lot of questions unanswered- including the fate of the character. However, Riverdale creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says at least one question will be answered right away. In an interview with EW he promised, "We will reveal (Fred's) fate at the end of episode one."

EW also has a first look at Archie and Fred from the show's season premiere titled (ominously), "A Kiss Before Dying." Both actors are shown covered in blood as Archie supports his father in an attempt to find medical help. Fred doesn't look great, but hopefully they make it to the hospital in time. Archie and Fred Andrews Riverdale season 2 premiere

The focus of the Riverdale's sophomore season will be about the aftermath of the shooting and the new fear instilled in the characters. Their safe small town has transformed before their eyes and now they are looking for a way to deal with all they have seen and experienced. Aguirre-Sacasa says that everyone is changed by what happens at Pop's that night in the finale.

In our first episode back in our premiere, we’re back in that diner and seeing everything that happened in that diner with Fred and Archie and that gunman and poor Pop Tate who’s also traumatized by the events. It’s really a psychological exploration of Archie after that as well.

Archie isn't the only one who will be experience big changes this season. The women of Riverdale have a lot to deal with as well. Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) has to rebuild her life after the loss of her twin brother at the hands of their father, the subsequent suicide of her father, and the destruction of her home (which she caused). Veronica has to contend with two new men returning to her life: her father Hiram (Mark Consuelos) and her ex-boyfriend Nick St. Clair (Graham Phillips), who was a part of her bad girl past in New York City. And Betty will find herself at the center of the season's new mystery, revealing a new darkness to her character that we've only seen a glimpse of before. It's sure to be a killer second season.
