The season 6 finale of Riverdale is coming up and fans are thinking about what the intense show could look like in its seventh season. While Riverdale has all the fun hallmarks of a juicy teen series, from characters who feel distinct from one another to storylines that are cheesy at times, fans have some thoughts about how the show could improve.

Although fans enjoy the excitement of the show and can't wait to see what happens next, there are some pieces of dialogue, scenes, and character development that feel a bit awkward. Redditors are sharing the parts of the show that they can't help but cringe at.

Betty Does A Dance To Get Into The Serpents

Betty Cooper wants to become part of the Southside Serpents, but she dances for the members, a moment that became memorable but not in a good way. Redditor Club_A mentioned that this scene is awkward to watch: "when betty was dancing the SNAKE dance or something like that It's really cringe..."

This scene is one of the biggest Riverdale scandals and while the dance is necessary in order to be admitted into the club, it still seems like the show could have skipped over it.

Veronica's Dialogue

Sometimes TV teenagers speak as if they are years older than they really are, and while it works in some scenes, it can be a bit cringeworthy in others. Fans have pointed out that Veronica Lodge, in particular, says a lot of phrases that feel awkward and not quite as clever as she means them to be.

Redditor umm_paragon posted that Veronica "rambles ALOT randomly about her nyc life" and that "her rants" aren't great, either. The fan doesn't like when Veronica says "full dark no stars” and “we’re endgame archie."

Jughead's Writing Narration

When fans are introduced to Jughead Jones, he's sitting in Pop's and writing about the murder mystery taking place in his town. This allows viewers to learn that Jason Blossom has been killed but also that Jughead is a talented writer who analyzes and observes a lot.

However, sometimes it can be cheesy when a character narrates a show, and that's what some fans feel here. Redditor joshmart said that the most cringeworthy part of season 1 is "Jughead’s nonsensical writing monologues." Jughead is an otherwise beloved character, but not everyone was thrilled with this part of his story arc.

Dark Betty

Betty has suffered on Riverdale, but while fans sympathize with some parts of her character, there are other aspects of Betty's development that feel confusing.

Redditor molmelo doesn't like "EVERY scene with the 'dark' betty." From season 1, Betty wears a brunette wig and says that she has darkness inside of her, and she sometimes channels a different part of herself that she says is stronger than she normally is. Although it's nice seeing Betty stand up for herself, this is a bit too intense and it seems like the show could approach this character growth another way.

Why Does Veronica Want To Become Part Of Her Dad's Company?

Veronica and Hiram in Riverdale

While Veronica's relationship with Archie Andrews is a big part of the show, she has some storylines that don't always make perfect sense. In season 2, Veronica thinks that it would be a great idea to help with her dad's company and even becomes invested in a deal about building a casino.

One Redditor said Veronica "wanting to be super involved in Lodge Industries at 15/16 years old has been really eyeroll inducing." It's definitely confusing that a high schooler would be interested in this as there is so much else that Veronica could focus on.

When Betty Says "A Serpent Queen is a Warrior Queen”

Betty Jughead Sweet Pea and Fangs in Riverdale

At the end of season 2, Jughead asks Betty "Will you be my Serpent queen?" and she asks if she should become part of the Serpents. Later on, Betty says a line that many fans find to be incredibly awkward: "A Serpent Queen is a Warrior Queen."

Redditor Lamalove considers this a "top 10 cringe moment." While Betty likes feeling strong, tough, and secure, and it's great that she discovers more confidence as the show progresses, it's possible to say that this line of dialogue stands out a bit too much and seems too silly to be believable.

The Dialogue In General

Archie with his arm around Veronica in Riverdale

While Riverdale has sweet quotes about friendship, a lot of the time the teenagers talk to each other in a way that fans think is over-the-top. Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl often speak in an intense way, using words and phrases that stand out but sometimes in a cringeworthy way.

One Redditor doesn't appreciate the show's dialogue, writing, "Its pretentious that no teenager would say this but at the same its cringy enough to sound immature." Riverdale has become known for its dialogue and while many young adult shows have characters who sound maybe too clever at times, some viewers think it's overkill here.

Betty, Veronica, And The Cheerleaders Sing "Jailhouse Rock"

Riverdale Jailhouse Rock

In season 2, Betty, Veronica, and the Vixens do a cheerleading routine to the song "Jailhouse Rock." But the scene stands out because the team stands on a field near the jail where Archie is because he was accused of murdering Cassidy Bullock.

Redditor jenh6 replied in a thread about the most cringeworthy moments on the show and said, "Definitely the jail house rock." This wasn't the most necessary plot and, instead, the characters could focus on helping Archie get out of his predicament. Archie's entire plotline about Cassidy's murder isn't the best, either, as it's clear that he didn't do it and it's not much fun watching him go on trial.

When The Characters Say "Bughead"

Jughead and Betty in Riverdale

Fans refer to Betty and Jughead's romance as "Bughead," but viewers don't like when the characters themselves do this. Redditor EntireAbbreivations wrote that "Any time anyone uses the ship names" it feels off but "it was super cringe coming out of Jughead's mouth because that's so not his personality."

Jughead has great Riverdale quotes, as he's creative, intelligent, and perceptive, but fans agree that it would be better if he just used his and Betty's names.

Archie Doesn't Have Great Plotlines

In a thread about cringeworthy plots, one Redditor mentioned that they don't love Archie's storylines, writing, "His motives are all over the place, sometimes he doesn't even have motives and just does anything because he's too emotional/innocent/earnest."

In comparison to the other main characters, Archie's plotlines are a bit weaker. One of the least popular storylines is in season 1 when Archie wants to play sports but is also interested in music.
