Riverdale fans will have to wait another week for more clues about the Gargoyle King and his sinister game, because the Thanksgiving break means there's no new episode of the show this week. Instead, The CW will be broadcasting Night 1 of the iHeartradio Music Festival live from 7-9pm ET, occupying Riverdale's usual 8/7c slot. Riverdale will be back next week with season 3, episode 6, "Manhunter," airing at the usual time on November 28.
TV shows tend to take breaks on or before Thanksgiving to avoid the ratings hit that comes along with millions of people travelling cross-country to be with their families, or turning the TV off to focus on preparing the turkey. Fortunately this is just a one-week skip rather than a full midseason break.
After a trip back in time with the actors each playing their parents in a Breakfast Club homage, Riverdale returned to the present day and Archie's predicament of being locked up in juvenile detention, forced to "perform" in an underground fight club. In "The Great Escape," the gang came together to break Archie out - but even though he made it to freedom, his friends still need to clear his name before he can be truly free. That won't be easy, given that each of them (Jughead in particular) is distracted by the dangerous role-playing game Griffins and Gargoyles, and trying to solve the mystery of who is wearing that monstrous Gargoyle King costume... that is, if it is a costume.
According to the episode synopsis for "Manhunter," when Riverdale returns we'll see Betty chasing "some strong leads in hopes of finding out who the true Gargoyle King is." Veronica will be trying to prove Archie's innocence now that he's hiding out in the secret bunker in the woods, but doing so will land her in "hot water." For his part, Archie will reach out to Kevin "for help making things right." The promo for the episode also showed Joaquin - who is part of the Gargoyle King's inner circle, and stabbed Archie before his escape - living out in the woods, offering more clues about the true meaning of Griffins and Gargoyles... but can he be trusted?
As you celebrate Thanksgiving this year, remember to be thankful that you haven't been locked up for a crime that you didn't commit, and that you're not in danger of being brainwashed into drinking a cup of poison by a terrifying forest deity. It's nice to appreciate the little things.
Riverdale will return on Wednesday, November 28 at 8/7c on The CW.
