With Archie and his friends growing up and leaving high school, the events in Riverdale have become wilder and more dramatic. And even with a seven-year time jump, the strange happenings continue.

But even while dealing with murder, criminals, threats, drama, and violence, the residents of Riverdale have still managed to find love and romance, both teens and adults alike. Viewers have become invested in the romances, even coining couple ship names like "Varchie" and "Bughead" to express how well they feel certain pairs fit together. But that also means that when the courtships end, it can be as crushing for fans to watch as it is for the characters to experience.

As expected, some of the high school relationships were just fleeting while others actually stood the test of time. And what Riverdale fan doesn't love a heartfelt romantic reunion?

Cheryl Blossom And Toni Topaz – 2+ Years

Cheryl comes out to Toni at Pop's in Riverdale

Cheryl and Toni dated for several years through high school, starting their relationship in the second season and staying together all the way through to graduation. They managed to make it through several tough situations, including Cheryl's coming out and Toni's grandmother's hatred for the Blossom family. The girls even lived together for much of the time in Thistlehouse, giving them the most mature relationship of all of the teens.

They had great chemistry, looked out for one another, and perfectly complemented each other, despite the fact that they came from very different socioeconomic backgrounds. Sadly, they broke up right after graduation following familial pressure and their lives going in different directions.

Jughead Jones And Betty Cooper – 2+ Years

Jughead and Betty were one of those pairings that became a fan favorite, even if viewers initially wanted to see Betty become romantic with her long-time best friend Archie instead. Bughead was sweet together, though Jughead seemed to bring out Betty's darker side.

Their relationship lasted through literal murders and family drama, and even persisted when their parents, once high school sweethearts, got together and blended the two families in one home. But after Betty confessed to kissing Archie and their lives were about to follow different paths after graduation, the passion fizzled and they simply didn't fit anymore.

Veronica Lodge And Chadwick Gekko – 2+ Years

It's unclear how long after graduation Veronica met Chadwick, but in the opening scene after the seven-year time jump, they were about to celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary. So, assuming they dated for at least a year prior to tying the knot, their relationship easily lasted two-plus years.

Unfortunately, Veronica stayed with Chadwick out of guilt as opposed to love. And thus, they are on a path to divorce, if Veronica can get out of his blackmail game.

Archie Andrews And Veronica Lodge – 2+ Years, Reunited

There was instant chemistry the second these two met, and when they finally got together, it was electric — even if their initial "Seven Minutes in Heaven" kiss was a huge betrayal to Betty. Still, Varchie's relationship had plenty of ups and downs, but they managed to make it through a lot, from Hiram Lodge's interferences to Archie's time in juvenile hall. He even went on the run and even though they technically broke up during that period and Veronica dated Reggie, it didn't wasn't very long after Archie's return that they got back together.

By the end of high school, however, Archie's feelings for Betty got in the way, as did his desire to find meaning in his life and join the army, so they ended things. After seven years apart, though, they picked up right where they left off seven years ago.

Mayor Sierra McCoy And Sheriff Tom Keller – 7+ Years

Talk about a power couple; these two share not only high degrees of intelligence but also lots of influence in Riverdale thanks to their past and present positions. While they both cheated on their spouses to be together, which isn't something to necessarily be celebrated, they did have a strong bond when they were younger that was reignited so many decades later.

It appears they remain married after the seven-year time jump, which means they might very well have been together for much longer than anyone realizes since no one knows when their affair actually began.

Kevin Keller And Fangs Fogarty – 7+ Years

This relationship had the most promise when it was revealed that, even after the seven-year time jump, these high school sweethearts were still together. Not only that but they were living together with Toni and had agreed to co-parent her new baby together, for which Fangs was the biological father.

Even though they had an open relationship for a period of time, they both seemed to be okay with that. However, Kevin got scared of commitment and backed out of what could have been one of the most enduring romances on the show.

Charles And Chic – 8+ Years

The origins of their romance may even date back closer to 10+ years, but they have certainly been together for at least eight. While Charles was working for the FBI and masking his secret identity as a serial killer, he met Chic and the two began a romance.

Even while both in prison, they continued their courtship and had even arranged for Alice to get ordained online so she could marry them. If they weren't both such horrible, murderous people, it would actually be sweet.

Hermione And Hiram – Decades

Hermione and Hiram dated for decades, even back in high school (after Hermione dated Fred Andrews for a period of time). And while Hiram fathered a child by another woman, Veronica's half-sister Hermosa, he and Hermione had been together for about two decades.

That isn't to say, however, that they were happily married. They seemed to have grown to hate one another. So much so that Hermione seized the opportunity to leave both Hiram and the criminal world behind and move on with her life.

Hal And Alice Cooper – Decades

Even though they had been married for decades and began dating when they were just teenagers, it was obvious that Alice had never gotten over her bad-boy boyfriend F.P. Jones and always carried a torch for him. She did, after all, even secretly birth his child.

Not to mention that Hal, the least likable parent on the show, turned out to be a terrifying and psychopathic serial killer. Nonetheless, happy or not, the pair were together for decades and raised two daughters together before Hal was finally discovered as the Black Hood, sent to prison, and they divorced.

Penelope And Clifford Blossom– Decades

Arguably the most disturbing relationship of them all, Penelope was adopted by the Blossom family from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy when she was just eight years old. Chosen because of her red hair, she was raised for the sole purpose of eventually becoming Clifford's wife once they were old enough to marry.

Whether they began "dating" at some point or went straight to marriage is unclear. Nonetheless, assuming they were married prior to the birth of their twins Cheryl and Jason, they would have been together for at least 16 years but knew one another since childhood. Both were vicious and manipulative people and together, they made a particularly villainous coupling.
