- Spoilers for those not caught up on Riverdale -

The trailer for the next episode of The CW's TV show Riverdale, titled "The Hills Have Eyes", has been released. Things in Riverdale have been tense lately - to say the least. Archie has been caught between his loyalty to the Lodges and Agent Adams threatening his father, only to learn it was all a test. Veronica is trying to find a way to work with her family without going too far into the darkness. Jughead keeps working to protect the Southside but may soon be at the center of a class war. And poor Betty is having major family drama with her father having an affair, her brother possibly being a killer, and helping her mom cover the crime - with some assistance from Jughead and FP.

With all that going on, it's no wonder the kids want to get away from it all. In spite of their young age, Riverdale has always been a sexualized show, lately more than ever. Two of the characters - Chic and Penelope - are working as prostitutes, and Betty has begun exploring that world with online videos. Betty and Jughead as well as Veronica and Archie have been taking their relationships to new levels of intimacy. Mayor McCoy and Sheriff Keller have been having an affair - which has finally started to have consequences. And now Hal is cheating on Alice with Penelope. A romantic weekend away seems exactly the sort of thing the kids might do in order to relax.

The CW has released the trailer for "The Hills Have Eyes" and the teenagers' steamy weekend away from home - in what looks like more of a mansion in the woods than a typical cabin, no doubt thanks to Veronica - is not going to be the release the kids are probably hoping for. Between the kiss Archie and Betty previously shared, Jughead seeing Betty's dark side for the first time, and an intense moment implied between Veronica and Jughead, there is plenty of trouble in paradise.

While the first episode of Riverdale played heavily on the Archie comic books' history of a love triangle between Archie, Betty, and Veronica, that story has mostly taken a backseat - especially since #Bughead exploded in popularity. The kiss between Archie and Betty has not had much effect on either of them, or their current relationships thus far. But a weekend with the four of them sharing one house might just bring up unspoken feelings between the next door neighbors. Meanwhile, Betty has so far kept her dark-haired alter-ego away from Jughead, exposing that side of herself mostly to stranger and to people she dislikes. How Jughead reacts to this part of her might threaten their fragile reunion. And while Jughead and Veronica have never expressed romantic interest in each other before, there's always a first time for everything.

However relaxing their weekend away ends up being or not being, their problems will still be waiting for them when they return home. And plenty more problems might still pop up, including the possible return of The Black Hood. The teenagers of Riverdale have been forced to grow up way too fast, as tragedy and secrets continue to plague them and their town.
