Netflix's Riverdale may be a bit of a gritty, murder-fueled twist on the classic Archie and Jughead comics, but that doesn't mean that the show itself is dark - in many ways, it's a neon-colored explosion of over the top characters. From cheerleaders who are master archers to the super-ripped Archie and his gang of hooded teenage fighters, Riverdale characters tend to be larger than life... which makes them easy to compare to zodiac signs.

From the students themselves to some of their parents and adults in their lives, which of the astrological signs do each of these incredible characters represent?

Updated on July 4th, 2021 by Amanda Bruce: Amongst the iconic Riverdale main characters are many distinct personalities. While a lot of the characters fill archetypal roles in a teen drama, they also have fully fleshed-out personalities that allow the audience to see the many layers to them, their motivations, and what they want in life. As a result, lines can be drawn to zodiac signs for the characters even though the audience doesn't actually know the birthdays for many of them, allowing fans to really look at just what they might have in common with their favorites.

Aries - Cheryl Blossom

This one should come as no surprise - who but Cheryl Blossom could be the fiery ram of the zodiac? Aries are stubborn, headstrong, passionate, and courageous, just like Cheryl. In fact, she embodies these traits to a fault (especially when it comes to passion and stubbornness), and also fits the Aries weaknesses - like being impulsive and often aggressive. She even loves to wear the Aries color of red!

Taurus - Archie Andrews

Archie is solemn on the streets of Riverdale

Archie is a tough one to place, because his character goes through so much development over the course of the show. However, Archie has a whole lot in common with the Taurus - reliable, patient, devoted. This is a man for whom loyalty, practicality, and family are front and center, and that's an extremely Taurus approach. Taurans also tend to love art in all its forms, like Archie gravitating to music.

Gemini - Betty Cooper

Miss Betty is also a complex character. Don't be fooled by her ponytail and cute clothes; she's a girl with a serious dark side... and it's that duality that makes her such a perfect Gemini.

The twins of the zodiac represent duality, which fits Betty (and her dark side) perfectly, but she also lines up with other Gemini traits, including her affectionate nature and the curiosity that drives her journalism (not to mention her nervousness and indecisiveness at times).

Cancer - FP Jones

FP started out as though he was a stereotypical bad guy, but look at him now! For a Cancer, home and family are vital, and FP has always been about family - both his chosen family of the Serpents and his real family (Jughead and Jellybean). He often messed up though. This is not surprising for a Cancer, a sign that is often closed off and moody, prone to being overly suspicious and keeping their secrets to themselves.

Leo - Josie McCoy

It's not just because of those ears that she loves to wear, or her obvious affinity with cats! Josie (of Pussycats fame) is a Leo because she embodies the traits of generosity and warm-heartedness, and of course, creativity. Leo is a deeply creative sign, and her music is the most important thing in Josie's life. Of course, that love of the stage can also turn to a little self-centeredness, or even arrogance, which are the downside of the Leo sign.

Virgo - Hiram Lodge

The patriarch of the Lodge's, Hiram is a manipulative crook, but he's also incredibly intelligent, and may have met his match in his own daughter. Virgos are the classic Type A personalities, who like to be in control, have everything their way, and plan everything to the tiniest detail. While Virgos are often too fond of the rules to become criminals, Hiram has all the Virgo traits... without the usual Virgo morality.

Libra - Veronica Lodge

Libras are lovers of style and beauty, and their strengths include their diplomacy and sociable nature. In many ways, Veronica is a classic Libra - and she's always looking to do the right thing, even when it means going up against her father. Of course, no sign is all good or bad, and Ronnie also tends to hold a grudge, which is another typical Libra trait.

Scorpio - Toni Topaz

Like an Aries, Scorpios are known for their fiery passion - something that Toni has in spades. In addition, Scorpios are resourceful and brave, and tend to be the daredevils of the zodiac.

However, much like Toni when she needs to be, Scorpios are known for having a temper, and even getting violent at times. It's no surprise that this Serpent is actually a Scorpion.

Ophiucus - Hermione Lodge

Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge

While it's not an official sign amongst the western zodiac, Ophiucus is present amongst the constellations that make up the zodiac. It lands right in between Scorpio and Sagittarius in the path across the sky that helped create the zodiac pattern. As a result, this particular sign is believed to have the traits of those that surround it. For those who believe Ophiucus should be part of the zodiac canon, the sign is thought to have a sharp sense of humor, be a powerful presence, and keep an air of mystery. Hermione Lodge certainly fits the bill as her knack for sarcasm and her tendency to attempt to outwit the other powerful people around her line right up.

Sagittarius - Kevin Keller

Kevin Keller.

Kevin is a typical Saggitarius - he's open-hearted and generous, and loves to see the best in people. However, as the audience sees with his experiences with the Farm, Kevin's tendency to be a little too optimistic about people can make him gullible, and prone to believing anything that he is told. He's well-intentioned, but maybe a little naive, at times.

Capricorn - Reggie Mantle

The Capricorn traits often viewed as most positive are their discipline and love of order and routine. For a team athlete like Reggie, these are front and center. It's not a bad thing either. Capricorns are very practical and focused people. However, in many ways Reggie (especially early on) embodies some of the worst of the sign. He's arrogant, convinced of his own superiority, and unwilling to hold an open mind.

Aquarius - Jughead Jones

Jughead in Riverdale

The Aquarians are some of the most forward-thinking of the zodiac: progressive, kind, and incredibly intelligent. Jughead is a typical Aquarian in many ways. He's got a strong humanitarian side, and truly wants to fight the good fight. He also has some of the less positive Aquarius traits - like his tendency to steer clear of getting too emotional, and keeping things to himself.

Pisces - Alice Cooper

Finally, Alice Cooper is the fish of the zodiac. The ultimate water sign, Pisces can be a bit wishy-washy, and can definitely be overly trusting and naive. Time and again, Riverdale has shown how Alice desperately wants to make amends for her past, how she has changed herself and hidden old "selves," and how she is incredibly emotional. All can be counted amongst Pisces traits.
