Krang is back to try and destroy the world in the first Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie trailer. The film acts as a sequel to the eponymous animated series, which offered a different spin on the characters as they name themselves the Mad Dogs and have mystical powers. The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series ran for two seasons on Nickelodeon with Ben Schwartz leading the cast as Leonardo alongside Omar Benson Miller as Raphael, Brandon Mychal Smith as Michelangelo, Josh Brener as April O'Neil and Eric Bauza as Splinter.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie picks up two years after the series finale and sees the Mad Dogs continuing their crimefighting in New York City and are confronted by Casey Jones, voiced by Haley Joel Osment, who was sent from the future by the turtles with a warning of an incoming threat. The group gather to face the incoming threat, the alien threat known as the Krang, who intend on destroying the world and recreating it in their image. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is set to hit Netflix next month and audiences are finally getting a look at what's to come from the show's sequel.

The reveal of the Krang acting as the main villain of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is sure to come as exciting news for longtime fans of the franchise. The alien antagonist was first introduced in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series before crossing over to the source comics the following year and quickly became one of the more iconic antagonists of the various iterations, having appeared in the 2009 film Turtles Forever that crossed over the 1987 and 2003 animated universes, as well as the 2012 animated series, in which he would be referred to as Kraang Prime. Krang would make his big screen debut with 2016's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, in which the villain teamed with Shredder to build the Technodrome and was voiced by Brad Garrett.

Given Krang has frequently worked with Splinter in the past, it will be interesting to see if the fellow iconic villain will return for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. The series finale did see the Turtles, Foot Recruit and Splinter effectively destroy Shredder's armor and freed Oroku Saki's spirit, seemingly putting him down for the count for good, though with the show utilizing more supernatural storytelling than the past and the Krang themselves possessing both alien technology and mystical abilities, Shredder could find his way back to the screen to face the Turtles for one final battle. Only time will tell when Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie hits Netflix on August 5.
