The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor Charlie Vickers reveals that season 2 will further explore Sauron and Adar's relationship. Based on the beloved novels by author J.R.R. Tolkien, season 1 of Prime Video's newest fantasy series came to an explosive conclusion last week. The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of Peter Jackson's acclaimed The Lord of the Rings movies, and chronicles the rise of evil in Middle-earth during the Second Age. After a season-long mystery regarding Sauron's identity, it's revealed in the finale that Halbrand has in fact been the Dark Lord the entire time.

The Rings of Power season 1 earned generally positive reviews from critics and production season 2 is already underway in the UK. In addition to bringing back characters like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), The Rings of Power also introduces a number of new characters, including Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), and Adar (Joseph Mawle). Adar serves as a central antagonist in The Rings of Power season 1, commanding a battalion of Orcs and leading the assault on a village of Southlanders in episode 6. Although Adar is seemingly defeated by the end of the episode, the character's fate remains up in the air heading into season 2.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Charlie Vickers reveals that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will continue to explore the relationship between Sauron and Adar in some interesting ways. Although careful not to give too much away, the star suggests that episode 6 holds many clues about what's to come. Check out Vicker's full comment below:

I think when it came to filming [episode 6], Joseph knew, and we spent quite a lot of time working over our backstory based on information from the showrunners and things that we will see next season. We see Adar's relationship with Sauron. So it's a really complex and long-standing relationship that comes to a head in that moment. I think there's a huge part of Sauron, of Halbrand that's like, "I look different, but goddamn, I want you to remember me, so you know it's me about to kill you." And I think it's an example of him - the same in that alleyway. You see his mania and the fact that he is really evil and a bad guy. It comes out and it's uncontrollable because it's unquestionable that Sauron... He's an evil dude.

Why Sauron & Adar's Relationship Is Important to Rings of Power Season 2

Galadriel stopping Halbrand from killing Adar in The Rings Of Power

During the action-packed episode 6 of The Rings of Power, Adar claims that he killed Sauron at some point in the past, suggesting that he and the Dark Lord are actually enemies, despite both being forces of evil. Adar is evidently wrong about having killed Sauron, but the reveal sets up an interesting dynamic moving forward. With Sauron gaining strength towards the end of The Rings of Power season 1 and becoming a more formidable threat to Middle-earth, it's possible that Adar could actually find himself aligned with Galadriel and her forces in order to attempt to defeat Sauron once more.

It remains to be seen how Sauron and Adar's relationship will continue to play out in The Rings of Power season 2, but the dynamic has the opportunity to complicate the general dynamic of good versus evil present in the show. Episode 6 already saw Halbrand come close to killing Adar, and it's possible that, as Sauron, the character will attempt to finish the job in the future. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 finale answered many questions, but Vickers' comment affirms that there is still much to be revealed as the show heads into season 2.
