LOTR: Rings Of Power Season 2 Twists Teased By Amazon Studios Head

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 announces its episode count as well as its new all-female directing team. The Rings of Power first premiered on Amazon on September 1, marking the first live-action adaption of J. R. R. Tolkien's works since Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. The series is loosely based on Tolkien's The Return of the King appendices and pieces together the history of Middle-earth's Second Age. Even before season 1 concluded with high viewership and positive reviews, Amazon had already ordered Rings of Power season 2 as part of its five-season commitment to the show.

Now, The Rings of Power has officially announced its season 2 directing team, as well as its episode count. While J. A. Bayona and Wayne Che Yip made up the primary directors of season 1, season 2 will welcome an all-female directing team. Charlotte Brändström, who directed two episodes of season 1, has been promoted to lead director. She will be joined by newcomers to the franchise, Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper. It was also revealed that Brändström will direct four episodes, while Hamri and Hooper will direct two each, confirming The Rings of Power season 2 will consist of 8 episodes.

Everything We Know About Rings Of Power Season 2

Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power Sauron Adar

With The Rings of Power season 2 filming already underway, Amazon has begun to release a few details about what to expect from it. In addition to confirming the episode count and directing crew, Amazon announced recently that The Rings of Power season 2 would add 8 new cast members to their already enormous cast. The eight new cast members are Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo, and Calam Lynch. While Amazon confirmed these new faces will appear in season 2, all details about their characters' identities are being kept under wraps.

In addition to the eight new cast members, The Rings of Power season 2 will also be welcoming back a large chunk of its original cast from the first season. Just a few characters certain to return in the future are Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Sauron (Charlie Vickers), Nori (Markella Kavenagh), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), King Durin III (Peter Mullan), and Isildur (Maxim Baldry). The only cast members not expected to return are the likes of the Mystics and Sadoc Burrows (Lenny Henry) who are presumed dead by the end of The Rings of Power's first season. Joseph Mawle is also not returning as the role of Adar has been recast.

The Rings of Power season 2 is currently in production and its release date is unknown. However, the season likely won't be ready for release until early 2024. The Rings of Power is a big project with an enormous cast, and season 1 left the door open for many different plot lines to potentially be explored. However, the biggest plot point expected to be further explored is Sauron and the Rings of Power. After posing as a human for the majority of season 1, Sauron finally revealed his true identity in the season finale. Rings of Power season 2 will likely delve deeper into who Sauron actually is, his rise to power, and his motivations. Additionally, since season 1 introduced the three rings for elves, the second season will likely delve into the seven rings forged for Dwarves and potentially the nine for men. Ultimately, The Rings of Power has a plethora of characters, plot lines, and history to explore, meaning that there are few limits to what season 2 can hold.
