Galadriel actress Morfydd Clark breaks down the character's actions at the end of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power episode 6. The series is the latest live-action entry in the franchise of fantasy works adapted from the literary classics by J.R.R. Tolkien, following Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. It was developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay and premiered on Prime Video on September 2, introducing audiences to the goings-on of Middle-earth thousands of years before the story of Lord of the Rings and Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring and preventing the dark lord Sauron from rising to power again
The Rings of Power season 1, which will last for eight total episodes, just premiered episode 6, titled "Udûn." That episode ended on a momentous cliffhanger where a volcanic eruption sent many Middle-earth denizens scurrying away for safety. However, the steadfast warrior Galadriel (Clark) - one of the few characters to appear in both The Rings of Power and The Lord of the Rings thanks to her elvish immortality, though she was played by Cate Blanchett in the latter property - didn't move, standing stock still and watching the panic unfolding around her.
This week, Clark sat down with TVLine to discuss the ending of The Rings of Power episode 6. She revealed that this reaction is due to the character's sheer exhaustion and that she is "grateful to have a moment of peace." At this moment, she is succumbing to her centuries of pent-up feelings and "utterly paralyzed by guilt, fear, [and] rage." Read her full quote below:
She was just utterly spent and so exhausted and so regretful, that she is completely immobilized and almost is kind of grateful to have a moment of peace. I think she’s just utterly paralyzed by guilt, fear, rage, and thousands of years of it.
Galadriel's Rings Of Power Future Explained
One of the few things that are known about what's coming next in The Rings of Power is the fact that Galadriel will survive, as will her elvish compatriot Elrond (Robert Aramayo in the role that was played by Hugo Weaving in the original trilogy). However, there are many events that will see her change from the warrior that she is in this series to the icy ruler who needs every ounce of her strength to resist the pull of the One Ring. Although she will most likely overcome her paralysis and channel her thousands of years of grief and pain into fighting this new evil that has resurfaced, she still won't prove strong enough to destroy Sauron single-handedly.
Although the plot of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power might seem pre-ordained thanks to the events of the later stories, there is still plenty of ground to cover that will keep viewers on their toes. The exact nature of the threat Sauron poses in this world and how he will be reduced to the state in which he begins the original trilogy have yet to be unveiled. Galadriel will play a huge part in this revelation, and there is hardly any doubt that it will cost her much along the way.
