TinyBuild Games' audio producer, Ressa Schwarzwald, used Unity and Wise to reprogram the Ring Fit Adventure's Ring-Con into a working accordion. An accessory for Nintendo's hit exercising game, the Ring-Con functions thanks to multiple components - users slot one Joy-Con into a pilates ring, which constitutes the Ring-Con, then another Joy-Con fits into a leg strap.

The device's baked-in motion controls are what drives the action, allowing developers to truly put a player's stamina to the test with inventive and genuinely exhausting workouts. Ring Fit Adventure, then, essentially represents an evolution of Wii Fit, but the former is not the only title on the Nintendo Switch that can make use of a Ring-Con. For example, one Nintendo Switch user modified the Ring Fit device's motion controls to work in Breath of the Wild. An indie developer managed to take things to a completely different level, though.

Ressa Schwarzwald, an audio producer at tinyBuild Games, recently shared her Ringcordion creation in a demo video, showcasing a functional accordion made from Ring Fit's Ring-Con. Ressa developed the project in Unity and Wwise, the latter of which is advanced sound engine software. The Joy-Con's face buttons are how Ressa switches key, while tilting the Ring-Con changes the scale from major to minor. Pushing and pulling on the device, like a real accordion, also alters the sound. Ressa uploaded the project on GitHub, giving all Ring-Con owners a chance to turn their controller into an accordion-like instrument. The developer said she plans on recording a video that walks through the project's history, though remains unsure as to when it'll be ready for release.

As far as repurposed controllers go, the Ringcordion is a remarkable feat. Players from all walks of life have programmed game pads out of the most unconventional objects, including guitars, pianos, dance pads, and even pomegranate. Yes, someone designed a pomegranate-powered controller to play Hades. Ressa's Ringcordion couldn't be in better company.

Nintendo released Ring Fit Adventure in October 2019 and it impressed players and critics alike from the start. However, the exercise title truly took off during the height of the pandemic last year, as lockdowns forced people to stay indoors and find other ways to satisfy their workout-related needs.
