With the second season of HBO's irreverent religious comedy The Righteous Gemstones well underway, fans can expect more wildly inappropriate yet hysterically memorable quips and quotes from Jesse, Eli, Judy, Baby Billy, BJ, Kelvin, Keefe and the rest of the gang.

Indeed, one of the most amusing draws of the show is the inconsistency between the titular family's public comportment as a respectable pillar of the community and the flagrantly foul-mouthed insults and obscenities they hurl in private. In many cases, the more outlandish the line, the funnier it is thanks to the stellar cast of comedic and dramatic actors alike. Fair warning: The Gemstones rarely hold their tongues.

Judy Gemstone

"I Have Regular Woman Panties Where The String Goes Up My Crack. I Have T--s. I Do Sex. I'm Carvin' My Own Path."

Breakout star Edi Patterson has some of the most hilarious lines on the show as Judy Gemstone, the oft-disrespected middle child who feels the need to get a leg up on her male siblings.

Raised in an extremely religious upbringing where sex is frowned upon, the hysterical line delivery of the quote demonstrates her willingness to break free and live as a more liberated woman. The "I do sex" part really underscores her inexperience despite her overwhelming alacrity.

Jesse Gemstone

"I Hope The Devil F---s You Dry.`"

Much of the comedy on the show derives from Jesse Gemstone's (Danny McBride) upstanding public persona and his debauched private life. For a guy who makes a living as a moral leader who sets an example by refraining from profanity and devilish talk, the quote shows what a brazen con man he is underneath it all.

Moreover, the shocking crudity of the line is delivered with a pitch-perfect tone, as only McBride can do with a straight face, highlighting the irreverence the show is built around.

Aimee-Leigh Gemstone And Baby Billy Freeman

"Runnin' Through The House With A Pickle In My Mouth."

Baby Billy and Anna-Leigh perform on stage in The Righteous Gemstones

In the flashback episode back to 1989, the Gemstone matriarch Aimee-Leigh (Jennifer Nettles) is seen performing a country duet called "Misbehavin" with Baby Billy Freeman (Walton Goggins, in one of the best performances on an HBO show). In a hilarious spoof on 1960s-style country-western songs written by McBride, the absurd lyrics conjure hysterical imagery.

Aside from poking fun at the silliness of country music lyrics and the picture the line creates in one's mind, the rhyme is catchy and hard to get out of one's head.

Judy Gemstone

"You Know What They Say: You Can't Gobble The Pie If You Didn't Help Bake It."

BJ caresses Judy on The Righteous Gemstones

In charming southern sexual euphemism spouted on Easter Sunday of all days, Judy's ribald nature just won't quit on the beloved HBO original series. Part of what makes Judy's odd idioms so entertaining is how nobody really knows exactly what she means.

Usually, Judy is much more candid and vulgar in her descriptions of her sexual indiscretions but here she tries to clean up her language in a more official church setting. The puzzled reaction of her listeners cements the laughter.

Judy Gemstone

"You're One Of Those Benevolent Lesbians Out To Meet A Hot Guy And Make Friends With Him So You Can Sample-Suck Some Clean D---."

Judy stands in the optometrist office on The Righteous Gemstones

Arguably the funniest scene in show history, Judy has an absolute meltdown after inaccurately suspecting BJ (Tim Baltz) of having an affair with his coworker. Despite her having a wife, Judy feels threatened when Denim brings BJ lunch at work, prompting an aggressive verbal salvo that leaves everyone who sees it in stitches.

What makes the line extra funny is how Judy is on the verge of tears when she delivers it, truly believing BJ may have been unfaithful with a woman clearly disinterested in him or any other man.

Eil Gemstone

"I Just Hope God Sends Down Some Chicken McDonald's From The Heavens."

Eli smiling while on a stage in The Righteous Gemstones

One of the biggest gripes about the show is how underutilized the great John Goodman is as the faith-tested patriarch, Eli Gemstone. While those gripes are warranted, the way Goodman utters the line is really funny.

Of course, for the head of a purportedly moral and deeply pious family to pray to God for something as inconsequential as fast food takes their whole religious ruse to the next level.

Scotty

"Don't Slap Me With Those Meaty Dad Hands."

Scotty does push-ups outside on The Righteous Gemstones

Scotty McArthur plays Scotty on the superb HBO original series, a loyal friend of Gideon and stuntman from Los Angeles. He often gives pithy and sometimes psychotic one-liners. But in one instance, he lets Eli have it by impugning the size of his hands after being struck with them.

What's really funny is the phrase "dad hands" considering Eli is not Scotty's father at all. The random line comes out of nowhere and goes against Scotty's low-key nature in a manner that it's impossible not to chuckle at.

Jesse Gemstone

"Doesn't Matter. I Love My Bi Son."

Jesse wears a suit, tie, and microphone on stage in The Righteous Gemstones

In a line very reminiscent of the ridiculous "I love my dead gay son" quote in Heathers, Jesse makes a determined effort to show love for his son, Gideon (Skyler Gisondo), despite the fact that Gideon is the one blackmailing over a lewd videotape.

What's so funny about the line is there is absolutely nothing to suggest that Gideon is bisexual. Jesse simply assumes that pursuing a dream in Hollywood as a stunt performer has led to a liberated sexual lifestyle. The presumption is one thing, the deadpan delivery is another that makes the line so amusing.

Judy Gemstone

"I Like It When Jesse Gets In Trouble. It Makes My Bird Twitch."

Judy sits on a bouncy castle on The Righteous Gemstones

In the running for the most randomly hilarious quotes on the show, the flashback to 1989 shows young Judy spouting just as many nonsensical lines as her adult version. Describing her long-held feud with her brother Jesse, she offers a unique turn of phrase that leaves everyone who hears it scratching their head.

What Judy means by the quote is anyone's guess, but she says it with such certainty and confidence that it sounds like an old adage in the Gemstone family. No matter the meaning, Judy delivers pure comic gold nearly every time she speaks. She's seriously one of the funniest characters in any HBO comedy series.

Jesse Gemstone

"She Got Me In My Meat. You Broke My Butthole!"

Jesse wears a Porsche shirt on The Righteous Gemstones

In the 8th episode of season 1, Jesse's oblivious and loving wife Amber (Cassidy Freeman) finally becomes fed up with his shenanigans and chases him through the backyard with a gun. After missing several shots, she finally tags Jesse in the buttocks, resulting in perhaps the funniest outburst on the show.

The sheer lunacy of the lines married with McBride's dramatic ability to make the gunshot wounds believable is a testament to the writing and acting caliber on the show.
