The upcoming motorcycle racing game Ride 4 is coming to PlayStation 5 in addition to current-gen consoles, although it will release three months after its initial launch in October. There's no word yet on whether the racer will also come to the Xbox Series X in addition to Sony's next-gen console, but Sony has already negotiated several exclusivity deals with various developers.

The Ride series is a motorcycle racing franchise that has been developed by Milestone since 2015. The last installment in the series, Ride 3,  released in 2018 to mixed reviews, although it received modest praise from Screen Rant in its review of the title. The games typically include hundreds of bikes from various points of history and famous tracks such as Macau, Tenerife, Imatra, and Garda Lake. Milestone and the franchise have been nominated for various awards in its home country of Italy.

Ride 4 is coming to PlayStation 5, at least that's according to the official PlayStation site. Speaking on the blog, the game's producer Luigi Crocetta explained that the developer is looking to release the motorcycle racing game for the next-gen console on January 21, some three months after its scheduled launch for hardware. Crocetta also confirmed that Ride 4 would have a number of upgrades on the PlayStation 5, saying it would "now be able to deliver a smoother gameplay experience at 60FPS with a resolution up to 4K." The improved SSD in the console will also allow for reduced loading times and up the number of supported players in each race to 20 riders, with the blog post explaining:

"Players will be able to enjoy their beloved bikes with the highest quality for shaders and textures, with a never before seen level of detail for both bikes and environments. Your riding experience will also be more precise, satisfying, and natural."

A huge number of publishers and developers have already announced that they are bringing games to next-gen consoles with enhanced versions. Many of them, like DOOM Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online, will be free to upgrade as long as players own the titles on current-gen hardware. But that isn't the case with every game and those who buy the new systems might have to pay to get the upgraded editions of select releases.

While it is good news to see that Ride 4 is coming to PlayStation 5 there are some issues that will concern some gamers. For instance, the developer has not confirmed whether players will be able to upgrade to the next-gen edition of the game for free if they already own it for PlayStation 4. There is also no news on whether the racer is coming to Xbox Series X. The fact that Milestone has failed to address these two issues is worrying as it might suggest it is not good news for fans.
